Since this is a vague comment, I have to say that some small grinders just do not do well with blade sharpening. I have one that does the same thing when sharpening a blade. It is just too small, horsepower wise, to handle the job.

SOURCE: grinder blades dull

I may be having the same problem. My coffee grinder has had more leftover beans in it more and more this week, until finally today, possibly a quarter teaspoon passed through to the filter basket and the remaining beans were still very much beans. My first assumption was the blades.

SOURCE: blade replacemen braun grinder

Insert a small standard screwdriver in the slot in the center of the bottom. Turn the blade slowly until you feel the screwdriver catch in the slot. This holds the motor still so you can simply unscrew the blade counter-clockwise. Do the same to hold the motor from turning while you screw the new blade on clockwise.

SOURCE: Bench Grinders Safety issues

Goggles or safety glasses need to be worn to protect the operator's eyes from the sparks and metal filings that result. Depending on the workpiece and time of exposure, hearing protection may also be required, the dust produced is also potentially hazardous. The toolrest (or workrest) should be mounted slightly below the center of the grinding wheel with less than 3 mm clearance from the wheel. This prevents the work from jamming between the toolrest and the wheel. Grinding wheels designed for steel should not be used for grinding softer metals, like aluminium. The soft metal gets lodged in the pores of the wheel and expand with the heat of grinding. This can dislodge pieces of the grinding wheel. Wire brushes require particular attention for the safety of the operator and bystanders as the metal wires may become dangerous projectiles as they could bind with the object being brushed and so throw it away with great energy. The machine needs to be securely mounted to a pillar or a bench to be used safely and effectively, often with an emergency stop switch or pedal fitted close by the machine, for use in emergencies.

Replacement should be simple. Just do a one for one hookup with the new part, after you unplug it first.

How to change a grinder blade on a ryobi grinder

Handheld grinder or bench grinder? I'll assume you're asking about a handheld grinder.

Engage the arbor lock. You may need to rotate the wheel until you find the spot where the arbor lock locks the wheel. Use a wrench or a gloved hand to unscrew the wheel (I use my bare hand). Screw the replacement wheel on and disengage the arbor lock. The new wheel doesn't need to be very tight, it'll tighten itself as you work.

I changed grinder stone wheels and replaced with buffing wheel... now the grinder will stall when i try to buff things... what went wrong or what did i do and how can i fix it?

Buffing takes a lot of power, maybe a lot more than you expected. Bench grinders come in lots of sizes and power levels. If you have a small, or inexpensive, or fractional hp grinder, it simply isn't up to the task. By the way, rpm is also a big factor. A grinder, especially a smaller one, turns at a pretty high rpm. A given hp rating at a high rpm gives less torque than the same hp rating on a different grinder with a lower rpm. On your grinder you might get away with smaller diameter and/or narrower buffing wheels that you use very lightly. Otherwise, your grinder just isn't going to cut it.

To sharpen tools

The angle things on the grinder are usually set up for drill bits and never moved again. If you need to sharpen your shovel, I would get a 4 1/2 grinder with 80 grit disc in there and grind away from the edge, Not into it, it cuts 10 times faster, cleaner, straighter, than the grinder, use fit or the lawn mower blades too, and the machete, use the grinder for your drill bits and other precision type stuff, don't let the wheels get rounded off or uneven, use a wheel dresser if they do. I have a couple grinders set up in my shop, one wheel for finer stuff, then a wire wheel, then a green wheel for carbide, and then another wire wheel. I use a 1 inch belt for knives and finer stuff, and a 10 disc for serious stuff along with the 48 inch belt. So you can see, I use them a lot. But if you need to use the grinder for your shovel, I would not use the angle stops, I would do it freehand and you can only cut the outside edge, and it will be hard to get it around there. You might have to take the angle stops off. Hope this helps.

I have an old 2 piece bench grinder that was wor...

Could be a belt tension issue. Try tensioning the belt by moving the motor and wheels farther apart by reanchoring the units,or,spanning the gap between units with a series of wood blocks and shims(wedges).Be careful with tensioning. Always manualy move the belt, unit unplugged. There should be some deflection(play) in the belt when pressed upon with a finger.

Bench Grinders Objects

our bench grinder can be used to keep your chisels, knives, gouges and other similar cutting tools sharp, which every woodworker knows is vitally important. Also, bench grinders are handy for sharpening lawn mower blades, drill bits, gardening shears and more. Additionally, a bench grinder can be used for honing and shaping metal objects when modifications are needed. For instance, perhaps you need to modify a door hinge to make it fit in a certain application. No tool is better for this task than a bench grinder.

Bench Grinders Usage

Grinding is the fastest way to deburr a sharp corner or dress the end of threaded rod or bar stock that's been cut to length. Fit a grinder with a wire wheel, and you have a handy tool for removing rust. Then switch to a buffing wheel and you're ready to polish metal to a mirrorlike sheen. But for most of us, grinders are essential for shaping and sharpening hardened tool steel and high-speed steel.

Grinder Types

Bench grinders are perfect for sharpening cutters, bits, blades and hand tools. Any piece that needs smoothing, shaping, or polishing can be done at the bench grinder. Straight grinders or angle grinders are portable, handheld tools with wheels that range from 4 to 9 inches. They are the best grinders for working on pieces that may be too large to fit at a bench.
