First, try plugging a lamp into the socket and see if that works. Next, plug the receiver into a different outlet and see if you have the same problem. Usually, when a receiver shuts down after a few seconds, the problem is a shorted output transistor causing the system to go into auto-protect. A blown transistor may be caused by speaker wires touching at either end. Just a stray strand of wire can be enough to cause real problems.
