I beleive every time you unhook your battery on a generator system you have to flash it to set the polarity . Also I think all delco 6 volts were pos ground . But this video from youtube should help you get it working. Polarizing Your Delco Remy Generator on Farmall SA Super

from scratch... well are you using the factory style of alternator or something different as you didn't mention the age and it could be: 12 volt positive or negative ground, or, 6 volt positive or negative ground. Or do you have a starter/generator or ??? Further research suggest you have a generator which would mean you have a voltage regulator somewhere... SO please help us help you. We need to identify your system before we can help... Pictures would be great. Numbers would be good, type of battery would help...

weak or bad genorator check amps and also check all connection and fuse and "no -oxyidation" will help corrosion reduction. worng size bulbs and there may be resistance some place

The super a uses a delco distributer along with a stand alone canister coil like those used in most older mid 70 cars, so all you should need is to pick up one from a junk yard or go to TSC and pick up a new one

It might have to do with your temp or it could be a fuel issue. I had a model "B" (1947) and it sometimes pulled a slight vacuum on the tank, starving it for fuel, and it took about that long. If you have the glass sediment bowel on yours, you should be able to see evidence of this if it is happening, or if you have a vent in your filler cap, it might be plugged. I don't know how a model H tank is vented, but I'm sure that you do.
As to it being temp related; it could be. You can remove and test your thermostat by immersing it in hot boiling water and seeing if it opens. It probably has it's temperature rating printed on the thermostat. If you believe that this is the issue, a lower opening thermostat can be installed to see if this corrects the problem
