The agitator on my upright Kenmore 116 vacuum has stopped turning. I have taken it apart, cleaned it thoroughly and tried pressing the reset button. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem. The agitator stopped turning after I sucked up a foreign object (my wife's watch) and it got jammed in the intake. After removal of the watch the agitator did not spin when turning on the machine, and the reset button never deployed (it remained buried in its housing and would not depress with a paper clip). The agitator was not bound and I could manually move it in both directions with ease. Faced with prospect of paying $125 or more for a repair, a good sharp kick to the chassis from the top promptly fixed the problem. I have found that kicking malfunctioning electronics often works.
I had the same issue. The holder for the micro switch is very weak and will open up and allow the switch to come loose, and in my case the was not enough slack in the wire. I unplugged the unit, pressed the pedal and laid it down. Open up the bagger door and remove the bag and filter. Remove 4 screws in the bagger compartment, remove 2 screws by InteliClean indicator lights, remove 4 screws on the outside close to the light. You will be removing the blue upper case. Remove the upper case and look on the right where the lower agitator section pivots. There you will see a micro switch. I ended up lifting and tilting the lower pivot section to the side, repositioning the switch in the holder, and then wedging a full glue stick (not melting but wedging) between the white plastic housing and the switch holder. This added the strength needed to the switch housing to hold it in place. Put it all back together, install the filter and bag. This fixed mine. Good Luck.
Try to replace the belt, if it has not been replaced in the last 6 - 8 months i would try that.
