Wireless router I have an actiontec gateway as a modem/router for my dsl.  I also have a dlink wireless router.  Can I connect the wireless router to the modem so that I have wireless service?  I tried it and my laptop is picking up the network, but I am unable to load any pages, it is like the wireless router is configured wrong.  Perhaps I am not getting an ip address?

Yes, you can use wireless router with the modem. I guess the actiontech DSl router that you have is also Wireless one. If so, you can use just the DSL router for wireless connection. If you really want to use Dlink router with it, Connect the ( WAN port ) of the Dlink router to the ( LAN Port ) of the Action tech modem [ modem(LAN)-->Dlink(WAN) ]. Once you do this connection, better to do power cycle ( unplug the pwr to the dlink first, then, disconnect the pwr to action tech - wait 1min and plug the pwr to modem, wait for DSL light to be solid , then put the pwr back to dlink ). Make sure DSL light on the modem solid, internet light & WLAN light on the link glowing.
- Make Hardwire connection between the computer to Dlink and check the ip address on the computer whether it acquires the ip address from Dlink and then check the internet connection on the computer, it has to work. if computer not getting ip from dlink, try restarting computer.
- If hardwire connection on the dlink works fine and check the wireless connection.

For wireless configuration or assistance you may check this link:

please feel free to ask, if you have any more assistance.

Can I connect a GT704WG to a COMCAST SciAlt modem and have wireless

No. The uplink for the Actiontec is the DSL port. You would be better off purchasing a router from a retailer instead of a gateway modem/router combo like the Actiontec

Cant configure the router on my Actiontec gt724wgr

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

Can a actiontec gateway wireless DSL router be connected to a comcast cable modem?I have an old DSL wireless router (gateway), can I use this as my wireless router with comcast cable internet, or do i need...

You could do it, but it's a bit of a pain in the ***** and probably not worth the hassle.
Actiontec DSL gateway was not designed to act as a "proper" router and therefore you won't be able to make it act like one permanently (well, unless there's a hacked firmware out there somewhere ;).
Of course, since it runs linux, you can telnet into it and manually set up the ip addresses on both wireless/wired interfaces and the necessary route between them. It will then work as a wireless access point for your comcast cable modem, but any changes will be lost every time you reboot the actiontec.
I've done it in the past with similar setup but quickly got tired of having to console the actiontec to add the ips and routes every time it crashed -and eventually got a proper wireless router.
So-it can be done, just not easily.
Have fun,
Raf

I have a dsl modem and an actiontec gt701-wg gateway

Yes this is a normal method to setup a wireless network.
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps :-
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router.

Actiontec GT701-WG won't operate wirelessly

In looking on the internet the unit is a DSL gateway. Trying to use it on cable internet is not a real good way to set up your network because I believe the router is waiting for a DSL sync before the services turn on. I would spend the money and pick up a Linksys or Netgear G router, there around $50.
