Question about Brother Sewing Machines
The Brother XL3200 does not have an option to lower the feed dogs. It came with a darning plate, part number XA3443151, to cover the feed dogs. This is available at Amazon.com for less than $10, including shipping. See https://www.amazon.com/Brother-Darning-Plate-XA3443151/dp/B002EZVSUU . It's also in stock here: https://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/pd60-XA3443151.php .
The manual for the similar Brother machines, XL2600 and XL3500, show using the darning plate on page 38. This manual is available here: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_XL_2600_2610_3500_3510_EN_206.PDF .
I hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a Brother 98-Stitch
I dropped my feed dogs and when I pushed the button to bring them back up, it wouldn't work. I did discover that when you put the button back to the up position and start sewing, the dogs come back up automatically.

Your machine needs oiling. The feeddogs are stuck. Could be in several places. You would have to remove the back and side covers to get to what needs cleaning and oiling. Especially behind that knob. Just removing the covers is a job so I can't recommend you do this unless your trained. But you can try. Don't forget the screws beneith the machine. But really, there is too much behind the handwheel for a novice to deal with. Maybe see if you can just let some sewing machine oil just run down behind the feedog knob and work it alot.

Pull out the removable table and you will see the drop down feed dogs switch lever behind the back of the machine. Move that lever to the left or right to have feed dogs go back to normal sewing mode OR for embroidery mode.

I was having trouble with this too, but found more help online...you have to switch the dog feed back to 'up'....then turn the needle wheel toward you....the feed dog should snap back into place :)
Hope this helps :D

On many machines you tilt the machine back on its hinges to see the underside and there you will find a thumbscrew to lower the feed dogs...you also need to be sure that your machine is capable of having its feed dogs lowered...not all machines can do this!
