Vizio 55in smart tv model E550i-B2 started with randomly shutting off after a while I could turn it back on it would work fine but eventually kept getting worse and finally the screen went black but still had sound. Took it apart to check connector in between power board and led inverter but couldn't get the power board off easily so I didn't want to force it so I didn't get to check if it was wiggling when off but it seemed pretty solid while connected. Not sure what I did but saw backlights come on and all seemed well. It worked for about a day then went back to its non-functional self again. I don't want to replace all the boards to narrow down problem and was hoping you may have some advice before I chance it???

SOURCE: I have a Vizio E550i-b2 55 LED TV. I have no LED backlight. When I hold a flashlight to the screen I can see the images and I have sound. I was going to replace the LED driver? Thoughts??

Hi Jimmy,
If I may suggest, before changing, please check that the inverter board is producing the necessary voltage to drive the backlights or not. If the board is producing the necessary power and still the backlight is not coming on, there is possibility that some of the LEDs in the backlight array have failed.

Testimonial: "No matter which HDMI input I use the screen is totally black again. The apple tv works fine on a different Vizio TV with a different HDMI cable."

SOURCE: 55 Vizio LED e550i-b2. Confirmed no back lights. Unplug for few hours, replug and works again for a few days. Is best bet led invertor going out? Visually the boards and connections look ok.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

SOURCE: I have a Vizio E550i-B2 and the screen went blank, I do still have sound. I did the flashlight test and I can see the screen very dim. Would this be the LED driver board or power supply board?

Hi,
This model develops bad solder joints on the connector between the power supply and the led driver board and loses backlighting. It's hard to believe, but the whole connection goes bad. All those pins supply only 24v and gnd. Resolder all of the pins on the power supply half of the connector and the tv will work.
It's the connector between that large yellow board (p/s) and the center green board (led driver).

Vizio e550i-b2 TV. Audio has started intermittently losing sound

First thing is test power supply voltages as the power board on this model has had some issues. You need to test the 12 Volt supply for correct voltage and ripple as cap failure is somewhat common. Don't worry about the 5 volt supply. If the voltage looks good you have a bad main board and that board will be hard to find and expensive, over $100 in most cases. As strange as it sounds a bad inferred sensor board will also make no sound but I can't say I've head of that issue being intermittent.

Model e550i b2. How can I remove entire rear panel?

You can go to the Vizio site and download their manual and if that doesn't have it! You can look download a service manual from one of those sites on the web that has service manuals and that is what I did. It cost me $12 for the service manual but was helpful, somewhat!
