Hello uwood, The problem you have is related to the battery's nominal tension value. For the pda to light up the amber led dispaying that the battery is charging the tension value at the battery pins must be above 3.27Volts. If this is under that value the PDA's charging circuitry woun't power up and therefore the amber led woun't turn on. The battery you have bought is probably defective or not compatible with your pda model. If you are shure this is not the case or if the battery works with other pda's (if you have the possibility to check that), try a master reset at first and if this doesn't help try a firmware (ROM) update, you may find the ROM files on HP's site. For more informations please reply back.

Did you push the left button (has a green minus sign) at the bottom left of the video display? The battery indicator will be on the upper right.

It is unlikely that the capacitor will have any charge on it so you should shake it gently to charge it up. You certainly can't do any harm by charging it, even if the capacitor did have any charge.
