1. You are not on the right input for the signaling device: Verify which input number (or type ie HDMI/component/video/Cable) your device is connecting to and tune to that input.
2. The signaling device is not powered on. Verify it is on and the cable is properly seated into device and TV.
3. The cable is bad. Try a different cable or use alternate type of connection.
4. The specific input port on the TV is bad. Move the connecting cable to a different port (ie from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2) and tune the TV to that input.
If you are using an Over the Air signal (OTA) with rabbit ears or and antenna use the TV menu to run an auto tuning scan of your local stations.
If you are using a tuning box (cable/satellite) over a coaxial connection check connections and tune the TV to CH 3 or CH 4 and check for picture. There may be a switch on the back of the box indicating CH 3 or CH 4.

Emerson says weak signal

Check your aerial connections or outside antenna. The TV is telling you that it isn't getting a proper signal. If it was working fine before and just started happening, you may find the outside aerial has fallen over or broken or it may be just a cable that has come out.

Emerson LCD TV Model LD190EM1 Sony Blu-Ray Disc Player, Model BDP-S3100, The TV screen gives an error reading "Format not supported" when I connected it using either HDMI connection.

This HDTV is rated display signals up to and including 720P resolution according to the spec linked below. If you are outputting a 1080i or 1080P signal from your BD Player, this could be the cause for the error message. Many HDTVs will accept signals higher than they can display - and simply down-rez to the highest resolution that they can display.

Connect the BD Player to a device that can display the signal. Enter the player's setting and change the output to 720P. Shut it off / disconnect cables as needed and reconnect it to the Emerson HDTV and see if it will display properly.

If it does, you're all done! if it doesn't - there's something else going on that isn't readily apparent to me. Good luck!
