The "E" is an error indication. If you divide a number by zero that would cause it. But a reset should clear it. Also dead backup battery will cause it.
FIRST replace the backup battery in the unit. There is a small panel on the bottom to access it.
Then do the reset. There is a "poke hole" to reset it that should be marked. Refer to your manual which is also available for free download online.
