The hinge should be to the north. An imaginary line drawn perpendicular from the center of the tilt plate should point to Polaris (the North Star).

SOURCE: The azimuth adjustment keys don't work

Send it back along with the hand controller describing the problem. Could be several things including a bad hand controller. If there is a local astronomy shop nearby take the scope there and ask to try one of the hand controllers in the shop and test it. If it now works you just need to buy another hand controller.

Otherwise send it in for repair

SOURCE: Focus knob on Celestron NexStar 5 does not appear

Does the focuser move in and out when you turn the knob? If it does then go outside during the day timne and practice focusing on a distant object. Use the eyepiece with the biggest number written on it.

This will give you the lowest magnification-- which is easier to focus.

Many times a bad cable will cause this. Also low batteries can cause this.

Contact Celestron and order a new cable. Use an external 12 volt power pack.

Do you have a fresh set of batteries in the scope? Better to use an outside 12 volt power pack with the Celestron 12 volt "cigarette" lighter cable.

This can be three things:

Low power

Bad cable from hand controller to scope.

Or a broken hand controller

Try fresh batteries first.

I have connected the hand held remote control to me Celestron NexStar 80GTL and nothing happens. The remote will not power up. Don't know if the problem lies with the remote or is a more major...

Are the batteries fresh? You can also try a new hand controller cable maybe the one you have is broken which is a common problem.

Beyond that you can try to borrow another hand controller and try it. If none of these work, then you have a blown circuit inside the telescope. It will need to be returned to Celestron for repairs.

I dont understand how to start and use my nexstar 4 SE computerized telescope

Basically, enter Time, Date, and Site-- level the tripod and do a 2 or 3 star alignment.

All of the manuals are on the Celestron web site here--

Hi i just bought a acelestron nexstar 4 se telescope and when turning on the hand control it indicates transmit data and is stuck there , i can't set anything .

The hand controller is stuck in DOWNLOAD mode. Usually cycling the power off and then back on fixes this issue. Is the scope new? If it is take it back to the store and get a replacement (at least get a new hand controller).

The batteries are FRESH I would assume?

Here is Celestron's instructions for fixing these type of problems:

New batteries put in....It doesn't power up

Are you SURE you installed the batteries correctly? I once installed them with ONE battery reversed. !

Jiggle the cable to the hand controller, you might just have a bad cable. You can buy a new one from Celestron.

If you can get a 12 volt power pack and the proper power cable or the 110 volt power pack-- try it on direct power. If this is a new scope I would return it to the deal if these simple fixes do not work.
