There are three settings (DVD 1,2 and ,3.) #3 is the default setting and the recorder got switched to DVD1. now the remote won't work and I can't get back to ''menue'' to reset back to default. All I can do is play movies. HELLLP! I've tried everything from unplugging the recorder to useing a different remote. Didn't find anything in the manual.

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

Hi I have a sony dvd recorder gx360 that will not work with my remote. When try, it displays dvd 2 on front of the panel. I think its locked, how do I unlock it?

You have got the wrong remote code!
I have copied this from the manual....

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches the command mode for the recorder you set above. Follow the steps below to set the command mode on the remote. A Hold down ENTER. B While holding down ENTER, enter the command mode code number using the number buttons. Command Mode DVD1 - number button 1 DVD2 - number button 2 DVD3 - number button 3 C Hold down both the number buttons and ENTER at the same time for more than three seconds.

The correct "default" for the remote is DVD3!

Recorder is set to DVD command mode 1 and remote is set to DVD command mode 3 . Remote will not respond so i can not get to menu to reset. Is there any way around this problem

There is a manual for this model available in pdf format unless you have the original instruction book. Page 23 outlines 'command mode' where you can try pressing ENTER and the corresponding number buttons simultaneously on the remote for more than 3 seconds while pointing RC at the recorder. In your case, because your recorder is set to command mode 1 - press ENTER and 1 together on the remote. This should allow you back into the on-screen menu to revert the command mode back to 3 (which is the default) and it should work.
The online pdf manual for this model: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/RDRVX560_EN_ES.pdf unless you still have the original. Pages 22-24 show some of the setup procedures. The pdf is not very big so you can save it for future use if needed.

I can't return to command mode dvd3 (default) from dvd1. Now my remote is useless and I can't find a way to bring up the main menu so I can get back into command mode dvd3.

Hi,
Slide remote lower cover and look for DVD Command mode set switch, set it to DVD-3 position, your RDR-VX530 will accept remote commands.
Thanks.

Set up sony RDR-VX535 recorder to DVD1. now remote does not work.

See the manual on page 22.
The solution is to reset your remote code to DVD1 (default is DVD3).

Press the ENTER button and NUMBER ONE button simultaneously for at least three seconds. Viola, control returns.

Command mode change disabled remote

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.

Command mode

I did the same thing and lost all remote control to the recorder. Try holding ENTER & 3 in unison for as long as it takes (30 secs or more ) to view change on TV screen. This should get u back to system menu where u can change back to dvd 3 (default ) If doesn't work get a one for all remote and enter code 0533 which will get u in to the recorder command lines. PS enter & 3 worked 4 me.
