Dryer will not start. it has power. there is a timer icon on the control panel that is lit up.

Was running my samsung DV5451A model dryer on the wrinkle away cycle and it stopped running midway through. The check filter light was on and this was cleaned and replaced. There is also a timer icon lit up on the control panel. The control panel is working and I can change the options on the dial but when I press start nothing happens.

SOURCE: I have a 5 year old Whirlpool Electric Dryer, Model #LER7648KT2. The Dryer won't start. I have checked the door switch, start button switch and visible thermo switches or thermostats with an ohm met

There are usually 2 thermal fuses in dryer circuits. One is on the heater housing and will blow in an overtemp condition around 310-350F.
The other is on the blower or exhaust housing and will blow around 200F
Make absolutely sure the 2nd one is continuous and not intermittently functional. This will definitely stop the motor from functioning

Below is a diagram for an older model (LER4634). Your dryer has some additional terminals probably because it has additional drying cycle options.

The diagram may be more readable when copied and pasted into a plain text editor such as Notepad or another editor with non-proportional fonts

Switch Terminals
|TM |TM |BK |BK |BK |
|WB |OR |BU |BU |R |
|-- |-- |V |-- |-- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|O |X |O |X |X |Auto - High Heat
|O |X |X |X |X |Auto - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|
|<> |<> |~ |X |O |Cool Down / Fluff
|O |X |O |O |O |End of Cycle
|---|---|---|---|---|
|X |O |O |X |X |Timed - High Heat
|X |O |X |X |X |Timed - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|

Legend:
O = Open (Infinite Resistance)
X = Closed (Continuous)
<> = Either (But not Both)
~ = Doesn't Matter
NA = Not Applicable

Switch Terminals:

TM - Timer Motor (Different Models may use different colors)
WB - Black/White
OR - Orange
BK - Black
BU - Blue
V - Violet/Purple
R - Red

Example: For the Auto - High Heat Dry cycle, the following terminals are continuous:
Terminals
<TM - OR>
<BK - BU>
<BK - R>
(of course since BK-BU is continuous and BK-R is continuous, then BU-R is also continuous.

This should allow you to test at least some of the cycles your timer switch has

I have a general schematic in PDF for whirlpool for gas and electric, but did not see an option to add an attachment to this message.

Hope this helps or point you in the right direction.

SOURCE: Regarding Maytag Dishwasher, model # mdb4651aww3.

I have same problem with my Maytag. Had a repair guy come out and he said it's the 'controller card', not the button touchpanel. The controller card is $127 and not in stock and there's a 'several month wait'. I'm not going to wait, going to buy something used for less than the price of a new controller card. Maytag's quality has really deteriorated in the past few years. They used to have a 5yr warranty on pretty much everything - now it's only 1yr. (and of course, mine failed just a few weeks after the 1 yr time.

There are some things about the "Check Lint Screen" light you should know. It's a reminder light and doesn't actually check anything. When you select a cycle it should come on and stay on until the Start button is pressed, the door is open or after 5 minutes.

If the Control Lock is not turned on then you may have to replace the console/interface to resolve this problem.

A hard reset is used to describe a reboot process. With the dryer stopped and the control turned off (if possible), unplug the dryer to completely disconnect electrical power. If it is difficult to reach the dryer outlet plug, you can shut off the breaker for the dryer to completely disconnect electrical power. Leave the electrical power completely disconnected for 5 minutes. This will sometimes reset a control board that is stuck due to a power surge or glitch encountered through the electrical lines. Plug the dryer back in to see if the control will operate properly.

If the control does not reset and work normally after the hard reset, then you could have a stuck "touch up" button on the control. The image below describes a diagnostic test mode that can be entered to check the buttons on the control. If you are able to enter this mode, you can check to see if the "touch up" button is stuck. You may not be able to enter this mode with a stuck button, bad user interface control board or a failed machine control board. If the dryer will not go into this diagnostic test and the console will not respond to other cycle selections, then I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the dryer. It is likely that the user interface control board will need to be replaced.

Maytag Dryer

HI,

If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.

Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:

  • The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)

  • The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.

This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.

What could be the cause of my Samsung electric dryer DV5451A tearing towels when drying?

Most likely one of the vanes in the drum has got a gap that is catching it, or perhaps a fastener has worked it's way loose and is hooking the towels.

Samsung Dryer Model DV419AEW /XAA Dryer will not

I doubt its the main board. Try seeing if the drum is tight and seeing if the belt broke by spinning it by hand. If the drum is real sloppy and you can't feel motor tension, you need a belt. I would rule out the mainboard until last because the belt is like 89 cents.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer model 97591220. wont

Disconnect power to the dryer and remove the screws attaching the console rear panel to the console and pull the panel off.

Inspect the wires connected to the timer and ensure a snug fit connection. Clean the connectors and terminals then reseat it several times to ward off dirt within the connectors.

Reconnect power to the dryer and start it; replace the timer (part number 3398195 ) if the dryer still won't stay running. Unplug the dryer and pull the timer knob off the console. Remove the screws securing the timer to the bracket and remove it. Secure the new timer in place then disconnect the wires from the old timer one at a time and connect it to the corresponding terminal on the new timer.

Push the timer back into position on the console and secure the console rear panel in place.

The Dryer stop working. The Start button doesn't

Hi,
You need to check to see it you have power coming out of the timer? There should be a wiring diagram inside the control panel.
Door switch should be checked with the timer set to run and start switch pressed down to start. Check for power at the motor see wiring diagram for which terminals.
If you give me the model # so I can look it up I can try to walk you through it.

Lightning hit our house a month ago and the dryer was running. It stopped and now the start button won't stay engaged l We have to push the button to make it run and tape it in the run position,

your missing the voltage from the control panel timer to energize the relay to keep it energized after you push it to make it start,you need to trace this back to the control panel timer possibly thru a resistor that could have burned open due to power outage and probably replace

The dryer won't run. Dry, extra dry, and coold down process lights are lit.

Hi, the lights are signaling a control fault the is concerning the logic sector of the control board/timer. you will need to make sure that the wiring harness is connected to all points and it should be in good condition. if there are no apparent issue with the wiring harness, replace the control.

Another post reported replacing the power cord. I am trying to determine if this is a factory defect. Check the power at the power cord connections inside the dryer. You could have lost power on one leg and the other 120 volt leg is letting the light work. Let me know what the model and serial number is.
