The group name is:

BerninaThirtySomethings

but if you search for Bernina groups, it should be one that will come up in the search results.

You also must have a Yahoo email account to join a Yahoo group.

SOURCE: Hi component E3 has burned out on the circuit board of my Bernina 930 electronic. Can anyone tell me what this is please? even just a photo would help. Thanks - Simon

I bought my 930 new in 1984, but I don't know what the E3 component is (sooner or later, I may find out!) There are parts on boards in the 930 that do tend to die after a period of time. I've seen various articles that people are able to successfully solder replacement parts onto boards.

There is a Yahoo group for users of older Berninas called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that is very active and has some very helpful and knowledgeable members--some are even former Bernina technicians. No doubt, someone in that group would be able to answer your questions,.

You will need a Yahoo email account, search for the group, request to become a member. When you are approved, you will have access too all the previous conversations, files, documents, photos, etc. as well as the ability to post your own questions.

Good luck! Luv my Bernina!

Here's a link but I don't think it will work until you have an account.

Needle will not go down Bernina 930........basting strip???

Yep, most likely the basting stitch mechanism is seized. If you want to join Yahoo group BerninaThirtySomethings, there are documents in the files that explain how to release it. Otherwise, take it to a service technician.

Chanaged out both light bulbs on Bernina 1230 and still the light does not come on. Don't see any "extra" buttons to push to turn on.

There is a Yahoo group called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that may be very helpful to you. You will need a Yahoo email account, search for the group, and request to be added. They may even have a manual for your machine.

Help, I inherited a wonderful Bernina 930.The needle won't go up and down.Tried rethreading, feed dog is fine and oiled.I have a feeling it's something simple. Thanks

Try to: 1. Remove needle. 2. Remove the bobbin case. This is the most likely problem due to being inserted wrong. 3. Place a drop of oil on the race (where the bobbin case sets) 5. Check machine for free movement with the hand wheel. 6. Reinstall bobbin case. (Move the hook to the closest place where the feed dog is located) This will be tricky.
7. Once you have this done so the machine will move easily by your hand wheel try to slowly use the foot pedal. It should be ok. 8. Set the bobbin tension. The tension must be equal to the upper tension at four (give the upper tension a pull at four to get an idea of what to expect) 9. Put new bobbin and needle in and start sewing.

Also check for any garbage stuck in the bobbin area that would maybe cause problems.

My Bernina 930 Record had not been used for several years and now is making a grinding noise. Is this the motor or does it just need a good cleaning and maybe service

If you take it to a Bernina tech (sooner better than later!), it will get a good cleaning and oiling as well as diagnosis of the noise. Most likely, the machine needs lube as this is a common occurring condition with older mechanical machines. Lube is very important to these older machines.

If you decide to try it yourself, just be sure to keep the lube away from the basting stitch mechanism near the take-up lever. If it hangs up, most likely you'll need to take it for service unless you know a Bernina semi-expert who can release it for you.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

For more questions and information about the 930 Record, join the Yahoo Group "BerninaThirtySomethings." Several very knowledgeable people there who know a lot about the older mechanical machines. You'll need a Yahoo email account, then search the groups, request to join. Once you've been accepted, you will have access to the conversations, files, and the ability to ask your own questions. (Included in the files are instructions on how to release the basting stitch mechanism.)

Bernina 730 Record Service manual

Service manuals are difficult to find for most sewing machines, which Bernina is not an exception. However, there is a Yahoo Group called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that has conversations, documents, photos, etc. for the vintage Berninas including the 730 Record. You can join the group (must have a Yahoo email account) and download a variety of documents including a "Setting Manual" for the 730.
