There are standard methods for measuring BP. One should be seated on chair, feet on ground, leaned back, relaxed for at least 5 minutes, at least 2 hrs after a meal, .... then repeating this procedure several times daily, and averaging will provide some ave daily BP value.
Using this procedure for hourly BP measures, one can adjust times and doses of BP medicines taken daily.

Like the old guidelines, the new guidelines recommend that adults ages 30 to 59 should get treatment if their blood pressure is above 140/90 mm Hg.
However, the new guidelines do give adults ages 60 and older a bit more leeway. Treatment is not automatically recommended in this age group for people with blood pressures of 140-149/90, unless they have diabetes or kidney disease.
You should discuss this with your health professional and follow their guidance and treatment plan.

It is normal for blood pressure to vary through the day. However that systolic (upper) reading is higher than ideal. It is important for people in our age group (I'm 70) to have BP looked after because our plumbing is not what it used to be. However the general wisdom seems to be that you also don't want very aggressive treatment which causes a large drop in BP.
By the sounds of it you might have a home BP meter, but if not, consider buying one. I found mine very informative, both for me and the doc.
Go see a doctor for advice and supervision and stick with that.
