I've been using it regularly and now I can't get the cap off. It just goes round and round.

I solved a problem like this on FIXYA, just a few months ago. I gave this solution. Try to fill the machine from somewhere else. You can do this from the outlet. If you manage to do this, put on the machine. ( now you know that when there is hot water in the machine, the tap goes round free for safety). Now as the water starts to cool down....start trying to see if you can unscrew it. My plan is that with the hot water, the safety will start to work again. If the cap does not release the safety on cooling, then there is no other way but to destroy the cap and replace with a new one. Very important to mention that this job must be done by a qualified technician or some one who knows what he is doing. Working with hot water is very dangerous.

already have a severe burn, but will try to look for another way to fill the tank....perhaps it's underneath although seems unlikely as would be v. dangerous with all that pressure....no?
Anything you do.....wait for enough time for the pressure or at least the temperature to get down. As I explained ..PRESSURE and TEMPERATURE are very dangerous. Do not attemt anything, if you are not sure or not competent to do so. If in doubt and cannot find someone to help you...THROW IT SAFELY AWAY!!!!! It is nothing compared to your health!!!!
