I have a Brother sewing machine,model XL 6562, unsure of age, it's older. Today it only sews in reverse, cannot make it go forward. Help!!

Does the needle move up and down?

If yes, Make sure your feed dogs are up...

If no, make sure your bobbin wind spindle is disengaged.
If it is, then it could be more serious and would need to see the doctor

the reverse button or gear could be jammed or broken, it would be a good idea to have the sewing machine checked.

Check the clamp for a crack it sounds like it may have been broken. Good luck

With these very cheaply made Brother models, unfortunately it is going to need to go for repair, if you try to open the casing you WILL break something.

Have you tried contacting a Brother sewing machine dealer to see if they will order the part?

Turn the pattern selector to the pattern you want, set the width and length dials to your liking.

Your machine does not do embroidery.

I have an XR-65 (discontinued also for a XRT65) and I adore it. I'd recommend it!

Oil might help but it sounds like you don't have enough pressure on the foot. You can take the casing off where the light is and there is a screw back there that controls the tension on the pressure foot. It is not meant to be changed by anyone but a professional. I've changed the tension but it wasn't easy. If you are still interested let me know and I will try to explain.
