Not sure what model you have but some of these toilets have major issues with that problem. Best bet is to contact the manufacturer and see if they will replace the sensor. We removed two of these toilets from a clients house because of this issue.

We had a problem with phantom flushing. Call Kholer. They will send redesigned battery holder and top of flush unit for free. Seems to have fixed the issue.
You cannot. As you state, it is discontinued, confirmed on Kohler site.
If color is really important, consider painting it or a new replacement using an appliance epoxy spray paint such as Rust-Oleum after careful preparation of the surfaces.
