HP XT6200 problem!!!! no recovery disc even from hp!!

Hi I just bought a second hand laptop, hp xt6200, the previous owner didnt bother giving me any recovery discs. I didnt even know I needed them until I after I formatted my HDD and wanted to install e-diag tools for Hp. I phoned hp and they tld me that they have disconinued with my laptops recovery cd and will not be able to help me.

So thats the stroy...I have the laptop without any recovery discs, and no way of getting any! I have win xp pro.

I just want my laptop to be in a working condition with all its hardaware working and i want to be able to upgrade my bios and install other drivers... please can somebody help me!!!!! Please?!?!?!?! Anyone????

    Hi

Firstly thank you guys so much for your speedy reply!!! I really do appreciate it!!

The links you guys sent me was for drivers, softwareand bios updates. Which will definelty help me!

But the thing is I need to create a utility / recovery partition on my hard drive, to, for example upgrade bios or run e-diagtools...and well, hp told me that the only way of doing so was if the laptop has a utiliy / recovory partition and the only way of creating that partition is woth the recovery discs(which i dont have).

Im at a point where i dont know what to do...Im not really a computer guru so i basically try to do things as far as i can do it. I live in a very small town and taking the laptop in to a professional will just be too much of a hassle and money! Its crazy how much they charge in smaller towns!

Okey, thanks once agian and if you have any advice or idea of how to solve this problem Im all ears.
    thaks again.

Hp PAVILION DV7-4171 US windows 7 system restore download ONLINE

the first job when you get a new pc is to create recovery discs. not doing so is totally foolish.
you cannot download them, you have to pay HP for a set of recovery discs for your machine if you couldn't be bothered to do it yourself.

Re; HP 6735b Laptop Bios and admin are password protected by previous owner. I understand this can be corrected by replacing the CMOS chip on the motherboard. I am fairly technical but need advice on who...

Hi george.

I'm afraid you will have to get in touch with HP about this problem. The reason being is that yes you can de-solder the BIOS chip but this is very hard to do with it being on a laptop motherboard. You will need a very steady hand and also a heat gun to melt all the solder points on the chip to remove it, then you have to get the new chip in place properly which again is not easy, even for a tech like me!! To be honest with you I personally wouldn't bother trying to do this because it's that hard to do. If you can prove ownership of the laptop then HP will give you the master reset code to wipe the password from the BIOS.
I'm sorry but this is the best advice I can give you.

Kind regards.

I have a hp notebook and need to reset it to its factory settings, i dont have an external disc drive so cannot use recovery discs, how do i reset it or what button do i need to press

Most of the HP laptops have inbuilt recovery partition. We need to create recovery discs using this partition. We can even restore the notebook to factory settings using recovery manager.
Even the sony laptops have inbuilt recovery partitions.
