SOURCE: Upgrade firmware on a cisco ASA 5500 firewall

This is for the pixes, I haven't upgraded an asa yet...should be close or the same

* find latest version of code, these are usually *.bin files located on http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/pix
* confirm the flash and RAM requirements of the PIX OS software versus what the PIX has (”sho ver”)
* make sure you have a backup of the old PIX OS and PDM to the tftp server (or at least confirm the software is there)
Note: You cannot back them up from the PIX, so you will need to download them and put them on the tftp server * put in a change control form
* once change controls confirms date/time do the upgrade:
wri mem*** only if you save your configs via tftp wri net conf t ca save all copy tftp://your tftp server ip/pix635.bin flash:imageskip this if you don't use pdm copy tftp://your tftp server ip/pdm-304.bin flash:pdm *** if this is a failover pair, upgrade the other pair reboot

SOURCE: Problem after firmware update Edimax BR-6114Wg

Hi Fklco,

Why are you connecting the WAN,, (the internet modem cable), to the standard ports? It should have a WAN port, for the cable from the modem, and a LAN for the cables to the computer?

On the other hand, if it is working, I would leave well enough alone, :D

SOURCE: Converting Cisco 7940 IP Phone to SIP

Unlocking a Cisco 7940

Method 1:
1) Unplug the phone
2) Plug the phone back in while holding the # key
The phone will soon display “Reset key sequence detected”
3) After several lights flash press the following keys in order:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 * 0 #
4) The phone will then ask you if you want to save the network configurations:
Save network cfg? 1=yes 2=no
5) The phone will soon display “Factory reset initiated” and will continue
through the boot up process.
If that process fails to work for some reason there
is a second method.

Method 2

Complete these steps:

  1. Press Settings.
  2. The Network Configuration lock symbol must be unlocked. If not, exit to the main window and press ** # again.
  3. Press 3 on the keypad (or scroll down) for Network Configuration.
  4. Press 33 on the keypad (or scroll down) to Erase Configuration.
  5. Press the Yes softkey.
  6. Press the Save softkey.
The phone will now be reset.

C1B is ancient UNIStim firmware. You cannot downgrade to it. Try converting to a more recent UNIStim version. You can download firmware from www.nortel.com/support.

DND, Headset, Mute and Speaker lights on. Why does it appear to be dead?

Your phone is probably broken. I have the LG IP8830 witch is a similar model and I'm using it with the SIP firmware. I have never seen my phones come up with a blank screen. You can try re-loading the firmware if you have it. You will also need a TFTP server setup. You can run TFTPD32 on a Windows PC as your tftp server. The following are the steps for re-installing the firmware on the IP8830.

Phone lock-up maybe caused by an error in transport during the
software upgrade. To correct this problem:
1. Disconnect power from the IP Phone.
2. Press and hold the [Up] and 2 button while reapplying
power.
3. Release the buttons when the Message LED extinguishes.
4. When the BootC screen appears, enter the digits 1, 2, 3
and 4.
5. Follow the prompts to configure IP parameters for the IP
Phone.
6. At the "Server Addr?" prompt, enter the TFTP server
address where the IP Phone can find the BootC firmware.
If already correct, press the [Next] button.
7. At the "Do you want to apply default?" prompt select the
[Yes] softkey to use default or [No] softkey to use
previously assigned parameters.
The IP Phone will reboot and return to normal operation.

Hope this helps

I cant test my 7941g because i keep getting a small bullseye on the bottom left corner of the screen

Your phone is trying to connect to a TFTP server address to download a firmware and/or config file update. You need to figure out what IP address it is trying to connect to (You may have to use wireshark or another packet sniffer to determine this).

Once you know the IP it is trying to connect to, you'll need to set up a small network with a TFTP server running on that same address, and feed the phone a firmware update and/or config file. It will likely not fully boot unless it gets a firmware update.

Cisco 7911G definitely dead?

You are very close to fixing your problem. You will need the correct firmware and files; these are proprietary but you should be able to acquire them from your certified reseller. Alternatively, here at IdacomUSA, we have the proper firmware on hand, and can flash the phone for you to get it back to life. Call us at 1-800-903-9190 or visit us at http://idacomusa.com

IP 7920 & Asterisk

I believe I saw somewhere that the 7920 works best with the 4.02 version of firmware... only hitch is you can't get it unless you have a valid Cisco login with access to their voice stuff. You could see if your local partner could get it for you otherwise. Also, I think you need the cradle to upgrade the phone manually - otherwise you need a TFTP server set up and the proper keywords in the cnf.xml file. There is better info on voip-info.org about these sccp phones - god I wish they (Cisco) would release a SIP firmware for these things!

Missing contact in Nortel 1120E

It depends on what system it connected to. On my BCM450 voicemail must be set up by that individual to see their name in the directory.
