Your machine is set for Reverse. Consult your manual and find where the Reverse feature is located.

SOURCE: backward stitching

Knowing which kind of machine you have helps alot. Just guessing but maybe the reverse mechanism is stuck and needs some oil in it to free it up. Or the buttonhole mechanism is stuck in reverse part of it.
Probably you should have it looked at.

SOURCE: started sewing backwards now not moving material at all

Sounds like the machine's age is causing the lubrication to get sticky.

Try changing the pattern by moving the pattern selector around.

Take out the bobbin and remove the thread and presser foot, raise the presser lever, set the pattern to zig zag, set the stitch length to maximum and run the machine at full speed. While it's running, repeatedly press the reverse lever all the way down. Run it for at least a few minutes.

SOURCE: The Feeder Dogs are not moving forward or backwards on my sewing machine.

Are the Feed Dogs dropped? Check your manual for the location of the switch. .... otherwise your mechanism has been compromised. Take it in for repair.

I have a new ruby sewing machine the material will not pass under the foot. The needle just goes up and down in one spot

Make sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually move the fabric. Also check that the feed dogs are actually moving forward and backward when stitching (they should move from front to back, then drop below the needle plate and move to the front, where they rise again,)..

Problem with feeddog on my sewing machine

When the feed dogs have been dropped, some machine feed dogs will not become activated (rise & move backward & forward) until stitching is begun.

Be sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually cause the feed dogs to move forward & backward.

If they still do not move and your machine is mechanical (not computerized), the old oil may have solidified and is preventing them from moving. A good cleaning and oiling may be required. Other than that, it may need service.

The jagged teeth on sewing plate are not moving to move the material forward. U will have to look under the machine to check out the mechanism that is supposed to move them and find the part that is the cause of no transmission of power to the teeth assembly.

My machine will not move forward.

Sewing machines have a "free sew" that allows you to move a hoop by your own choice any way you choose. This means the feed dogs are below the plate and will not move the material forward or backwards either. You need to find the button and switch it to feed.

White model 445 material won't feed?????

Hi Jason. I wonder if you have your feed dogs lowered. It's near the bobbin area.

Here's a pdf of your manual. It talks about "drop feed" on book page 19

Good luck

My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.
