Was able to shift it into Drive but it will not move out of first gear. LCD in the instrument panel gone blank. To put it into park I can only move to neutral, turn the ignition off and move to park. I used Autel AL519 to scan and it says P0705 is Transmission Range Sensor. One of your feeds said it could be many different issues that can generate a P0705 code. Could you please help me to pin point it to the actual problem?

When is the code detected? The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position and sends a signal to the TCM. The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position when the shift lever is in the N or P shift position and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

P0705 - Trans Range Switch Circuit
Get under the truck and look where the trans shift linkage connects to the trans, there is a post that comes out of the trans, on that post u will see a large switch with multipile wires connected to it, that is the range selector switch, you need to remove the shift arm and a couple of bolts to remove the range switch, it is adjustable, u will see the slots, make sure u put the new switch in the same position as the old one or the truck may not start.

Just because your Check Engine light came on doesn't mean there's something wrong at all. Various Mechanical functions are timed by the Manufacture to signify Servicing required.
Sometimes they're set at 50K miles or more, when the light starts going on, all you have to do is take it to an Authorized Service Shop and they Reset the timer. Most places won't even charge you for doing it unless they find something wrong.

sounds like the trans range sensor or it could be internal trans problem. is the trans shifting ok? if not, it might need an overhaul. the sensor might be something you can tackle but it's on top of the trans right below the air filter housing. it the sensor that the shifter cable is connected to. you'll have to have it in neutral to install it as the sensor has line up marks on it.

there is a tsb that states a p0705 can be a range switch out of adjustment. To adjust the switch apply park brake, put trans in neutral, remove aircleaner assy, check that the holes line up prefectly in the switch and lever.
I have one in the shop that has some other problem not apperant with the same code.

Since it is electronically programmed, it is best to
call your nearest Audi dealer service center to have it checked. Normally, replacement parts for
this kind of defect, is sold by them.

PRND321 Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRND321 display blanks if:
?€¢
The ECM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.
?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM.
You have a transmission range sensor or PCM problem , Need a professional grade scan tool to diagnose the problem , well that would be the easiest way to test .You should have all modules test for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! That would point you in the right direction ! I would suggest you google class 2 serial data communication network !
