All two stroke and 4mix engines have spark arrestors unless the customer removes them

SOURCE: stihl fs 45 ignition problem no spark

Disconnect the small spade terminal wires from the coil itself and test for spark. If you do not have spark replace coil. If you do have spark check those small wires for insulation damage and grounding. If wires are OK check kill switch.
NOTE: DO NOT START MACHINE with small wires unplugged! Only test for spark.

SOURCE: How to get the head

There is a hole beside the angle gearbox, stick an awl or small screwdriver into it & turn the head until it 'locks'. Then rotate the head clockwise until it comes off.

SOURCE: can't start new stihl weedeater fs 45

The Stihl FS45 has a particular way of getting started as do all the stihl products. We sell Stihl equipment in our store and service and repair them also. The normal starting procedure is to:
Be sure the switch is turned to the ON position which is the negitive sign (-). The (O) is the off position.
Press the primer bulb 3 times.
Move the choke lever to on.
Pull the starter cord three times only. If the engine fires, turn the choke to the off position and pull till it starts.
If the engine did not try to start during the first three pulls with the choke on, you must turn the choke off and pull till it starts.
Remember:Pulling more than three times with the choke switch on will flood the carburator on every stihl product thats on the market.
However, if the units still refuses to start, being its new and still under warrenty, return it to the repair shop that services Stihl products and they will repair it according to warrenty. All parts and labor should be honored at no cost to you. Please provide your receipt and serial number located on a silver tag located on the unit or the mechanic will get it off the unit when he works on it. Either way, it will most likely have to have a new carburator put on it. I hope this helps. Please comment back if this was helpful. Thanks; George

Is there a spark arrestor screen in the FS 45 Stihl Weedeater?

I do not know if the 45 has one . Most likely does. The 56 Sthil does. But you can check. You get to the muffler by removing about 3 screws. Once you see the muffler. You look for a small screw that holds the spark arrester down in the small slot. you just remove the screen with some needle nose pliers and clean it by heating it up then scraping it down with a wire brush until it's clean.

When i give my stihl weedeater (fs 55) gas it dies. i changed the gaskets in the carburetor, new spark plug, new air filter. it idles fine just when i give it throttle it dies

This could be from a bad fuel filter (has a dark appearance when dry), from the spark arrestor screen in the muffler being plugged up with carbon deposits (take out the spark arrestor screen and clean it by burning off the carbon deposits), or the carburetor needs to be adjusted. If the carburetor needs to be adjusted I would take it to the nearest Stihl dealer that has a Gold Certified Technician. That way the unit is adjusted properly and is in good running condition. You can find a local dealer with the dealer locator. The link is HERE.

How do i set the carburetor on a Stihl FS-55 weedeater.

Over the past 8 years, the FS55 has had at least 5 different carburetors, and they have at least 3 different systems with different adjustments. Many of them do not have much of an adjustment and will not cure running problems. If you are experiencing poor running conditions, I would suggest some basic checks first. The spark arrestor screen is a big culprit on this model.

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside
