Screen doesn't work

Try turning the phone off and remove the battery. Wait about 30 seconds or so and put the battery back in and turn it on. This is one way to reset phones or devices with removable batteries.

Even when i press the power button it still doesn't switch on. what now?

You have to touch all there buttons at the same time, then slide the screen up. If your screen is already up slide it down then slide it up. If doing all that doesn't work, make sure you have the right batteries!

I have a pentax optio E40. The screen reads card lock and i cannot get it unlocked

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
If this doesn't do it, try another card.
If that doesn't do it, append a comment to this thread and we can go on from there.

There is sound on touching the icons but it doesn't work/ slide to unlock button also doesn't function

There is no sound touching icons. Never has been. There is only sound sliding the lock unless someone turns it off.
As for the lock not working. Chances are your screen is malfuncitoning

I can slide switch the phone off but cannot slide switch the phone on - bottom of screen doesn't seem to work?

this is the cause from your fingers or the screen being dirty ... clean the screen off with a dry tissue or a dry soft cloth make shure your fingers arent sticky or greasy and invest in a screen protector

Don't start

If you mean it won't start up, to the left of the screen there is one slide button, briefly press it down, and it will start. :D My apologies if this doesn't help..

Cancel will leave the screen & cannot move the arrow of the slide to power off will not move, the time is still working

Try Turning It Off And On .
If That Doesn't Work .
Try Connecting To Itunes And Seeing If It Does Have An Error That Will Come Up .
If Not, Hold The Home And Lock Button .
This Should Help Unless You Have Done Something To Damage Your Screen.

"this memory card is locked" appears on screen

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

If that doesn't do it, try another card and see what happens with that one.
