My Rancilio Slivia is heating the water in the reservoir when it is on. Warm water returns from the boiler via the return tube to the reservoir. Is there something I can do about it?

The machine is about 5-6 years old and is used pretty regularly by several people in my group. When were more people, it;d probably do 10 double espressos daily during the week. Otherwise, we run demineralized water in it, and keep the group head gasket fresh. We tend to run fine grinds and pull ~30 second shots for a double. THis happens even if the machine has not been used all day, but was turned on.

SOURCE: Rancilio Silvia Espresso water flows too quickly about 7 seconds

  1. check the coffe filter>> it could be teard up and leaking(check it carefuly it is hard to see sometimes)
  2. check the pressure you get from group. 7 - 9 bar pressure you should get to handle. if it is biger than check by pas valve and adjust the pressure, also check up boiler security valve(security valve for water for coffee)

SOURCE: Rancilio Silvia leaks around group head. Gasket seems fine.

HI
You need to change the group head gasket. They only last about 1 year and then should be changed. Get 2 because they usually fail on Friday and you have a party on Saturday.
The gaskets get hard from the heat and don't form to the filter any more so they leak.
When you get the new gasket.
Empty everything out of the machine (water tank, drip tray, etc.) Turn the machine upside down on a towel. This way you can see what your are doing.
Remove the filter screen and diffuser from the brew head. The black O-ring is your gasket. Carefully pry it out. Clean the opening good before you install the new gasket. Insert the gasket with the beveled side down (on the inside edge of the O-ring is the bevel). Once you have the gasket in place, use the portafilter to finish seating the gasket.

SOURCE: The frother does not work

Hi
If you can get water from the wand with the middle switch, you have a bad steam thermostat. Its on top of the boiler and its the one that doesn't have the red dot on it. Replace the thermostat and you should be back in business.

Use Citric Acid.

Baxi duo-tec boiler - when water comes on flame roars up. When i put the heating on the flames roar for 5 minutes then die down.

is the boiler a combi if so have you checked the pressure. it needs to be at 1.5 bar 2 bar at the most . also check that the heat the boiler is producing is completeing the circuit on the heating if you have access to the pipe work there should be 2 or 3 22mm copper pipes. now turn the heating on and check which one is getting warm. the one that is is your flow and in about 2 to 3 min there should be one more pipe getting hot let me no if this is the case

SilviaWhen running wster thru group head to warm up machine, noticed foamy-smelly water. Ran more - now have almost black water with tiny black specs.?

You have huge corrosion and scale in the boiler. Your heating element will be fried soon. Boiler must be opened up and cleaned, element may be salvageable. USE ONLY BOTTLED WATER NEVER EVER TAP.

Water safety sensor preventing heat up of boiler?

If the red light is on then the machine is not getting water and or level is low in boiler. Try this remove the bell looking softener and run it under the faucet to see if water flows through, it could be that is blocked and not letting water through, and if so then the reset switch for element might have tripped because machine has low water.

Not heating up the water

Hi
3 things could be wrong. First is easy to check. With machine on, turn on the steam switch and after about a minut open the steam knob and push the middle switch. Check the water coming from the wand and see if its warm? If it is you need a brew thermostat. Unplug the machine. Remove the water tank. Remove the 4 screws that hold the top on and lift top off. The boiler has 2 thermostats on the top front of the boiler, and the one with the red dot is the brew thermostat and need replacing.
If that didn't fix your problem there is a reset thermostat on the front face of the boiler and has black wires going to it. There is a red button in the middle of the thermostat and needs to be pushed.
If that one didn't solve your problem you need a new heating element. You can do a continuity check on the terminals.

Rancilio silva

Hmmm. It doesn't sound like a boiler problem. The heating element is controlled by a pressure or temperature switch. Either the switch is poorly connected or malfunctioning. Temp. switches are directly on the boiler with wires that go to a relay connected to the heating element. Pressure switches just have a tube connected to the boiler with wires to the relay.

Good luck!
