Under the cover that you lift off to see the motherboard. Otherwise, go to HP.com and type your model in - you can get all the documentation from them, for free.

How to plug front panal wires in mother board of compac evo d510 cmt?

I realize that this posted problem is over 4 months old, but in the interest it may help someone;

According to Compaq this is the motherboard used in the Evo D510 Convertible Mini-Tower,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MotherBoard-Compaq-Evo-D510CMT-Pentium-4-2-4GHZ-512MB-Ram-Heat-Sink-/120814069962?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c211468ca

Observe the blue long female connector on the motherboard. This connector is where the 40-pin flat IDE ribbon cable for the Harddrive, plugs in.

http://www.andovercg.com/datasheets/compaq-hp-evo-d510.pdf

(On the above link; it may not work as a direct link. It is a PDF file you download.
In case it does not work just by clicking on it; copy it, paste it into your address bar, press the Enter key )

Scroll the page down to a little more than halfway. Observe the illustration of the motherboard to the Left of the page.
(Has J22, J21, P23, J20, J40, P54, above it)

Look at CR1, CR2, CR4, and P5

Need to find out where the on/off cables hook to a 277977-001 motherboard by compaq

Hi,

Generaly, the little connectors on the printed side will face the bottom of the case. Also, typically, Black is negative, and white/colour is positive (except on the power sw, it doesn't matter). On the motherboard, where the connectors go, there should be some kind of print saying where to plug them in. (IE, POWER SW, would go into PWR, and HDD LED would go into HDLED and POWER LED would go into PWRLED).

It may look different than this, but generally the same kind of layout, as you can see, it shows the positions, as well as positive and negative.

Unfortunetely, I can't seem to find a schematic for the Compaq 277977-001 motherboard. I will try and find one, but I hope this helps you out with what you are trying to do...

Sounds like the power adapter connector on the motherboard needs to be replaced. or soldered in tighter.

Laptop not charging

Unfortunately on most Compaq/HP mobile devices the AC pin is soldered directly onto the motherboard. If the pin is severely bent of broken off then a service is required, usually to replace the motherboard. Having the broken off like then can actually create a minor crack in the PCB. Sorry for the bad news.

Where do all the leads go?

Hi there! I got given one of these MoBo's and, in a mad fit of generousity, told my daughter that I'd build her a PC for college using it! I found the MoBo tech reference guide on this page- http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=179911&taskId=115&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=96277 It's near the bottom of the page, with the text "Technical Reference Guide for Compaq Evo D300/D500 Personal Computers and W4000 Workstations Featuring Intel Pentium 4 Processors and the 845 Chipset" on the button! You will need page 6-11 for the Pin-Out details of the P5 connector. Hope that helps you out Wolfie
