Old question, but I will leave the answer for other people looking for it.
Since the Fan and/or pump start, this means that the divertor valve is working (check the mini-switch on the divertor valve if it's "clicking" when you open the hot-water tap)
So, next is line - do you hear sparks? As if it's trying to light up? If not, it's the mainboard with an issue.
If you hear the sparks, next in line is the gas valve. That needs to open for the gas to flow. That valve can also break. It's a honeywell valve.

SOURCE: Vaillant turbomax 28 constant hot water problem.

got your fix, its a calcium buildup in the heat exchanger, and more than likely the rest of the unit, you will need to flush the unit with about 4 gallons of vinegar, you will need to recirculate it for about 20 mins through the unit, then flush with clean water, hook it back up, it might take a couple of mins for it to run properly, but it will, I have had the same problem with Rinnai on demand hot water systems, and it worked like a charm, check the filter thats inline as well, make sure it isnt plugged, clean if needed, also if you dont have a soft water system inplace, you might want to think about buying one and having it installed, that will reduce this from happening again for alot longer period of time, hope that helps

SOURCE: hot water boiler will not ignite

Check all your limit switches on this unit. One of them is either tripped or bad.

Intermittent hot water.Changed diverter valve, heat exchanger, fan, PCB. Vaillant turbomax 282e But still no hot water.

Sounds like you need a new Thermo coupler.
Could be as simple as a dirty pilot and needs cleaning but I suspect a thermo coupler.

Trouble shoot heater hot water valve

It's not the GV. It's the Thermostat calling for heat when set to A/C and/or the Controller on the furnace.
The GV with a Hot Surface Igniter has nothing to do with the problem described as it only controls burner ignition when heat is called for.
