Claibrating the temperature of a GE gas oven

I have a 5 year-old GE Spectra free-standing range. I think the oven calibration is incorrect. How do I calibrate?

How do I calibrate my GE Spectra Profile gas oven?

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2007

I have a GE Prfoile XL44 Gas Range/Oven, and it does not seem to achieve the oven temperature setting desired?

I have installed two internal oven tempertature gauges and neither show the oven is acheiving the desired mark. Although the oven internal beeper says that it has meet the setting, it does not. I am most disapointed with this product as with most GE products, it's a cost versus a quality issue.

Any thoughts on how to cure this issue?

I am having the same problem. I set the oven for 350 and it beebs and says it is there, but using a standard oven thermometer, it is only reaching about 300. I dont have an instruction manual but there has to be a way to re-calibrate doesnt there?

My GE XL44 oven is between 50 and 100 degrees hotter than setting ---- can this be reset so that it is more accurate?

I am handy and would like to do it myself if it is not too complicted.

First of all, do not use the oven thermometers from a grocery store. they can be off by 20 degrees or more. These directions may help you for electronically controlled ovens. The older manually controlled ovens have a small screw head in the center of the oven temperature knob that can be adjusted in usually 10 degree increments.

To Adjust the Thermostat
Touch the Bake and Broil Hi/Lo pads
at the same time for 3 seconds until the
display shows SF.
Touch the Bake pad. A two digit number
shows in the display.
Touch Bake once to decrease (-)
the oven temperature, or twice to
increase (+).
The oven temperature can be adjusted
up as much as 35°F. or down as much
as 35°F. Touch the number pads the
same way you read them. For example,
to change the oven temperature 15°F,
touch 1 and 5.
When you have made the adjustment,
touch the Start pad to go back to the
time of day display. Use your oven as
you would normally.
NOTE: The thermostat adjustment for Baking
will also affect Convection Baking or Convection Roasting.

My spectra stove's oven is not working, the burners work, the broil works, but my oven will not heat up

Hi.

The JBP78 is electric, since you are talking about a gas oven I think the model is incorrect.

Talking about a gas ovens:

If the oven is not heating up and both broiling and baking burners are working and coming up then check the temperature probe sensor and the control board.

If one of the two burners is not firing check the ignitor, the burner and coil, the burner and flame sensor. The most common problems come from defective ignitor.

My Frigidaire FGFL67DBF gas oven does not reach the temperature set. I tried to calibrating the control, but it did not work. Any suggestions?

I believe that you have a convection oven.... by design, convection ovens built by GE come up to temperature....at 25 degrees below the set level .... when the Convection function is enabled.

I just conveted my ge gas range model #JGBP85CEJ2CC. how do i calibrate the oven

I assume you mean converted.  Changing the gas supply from natural to LP or vice versa should not change the temperature calibration settings. Most manuals have a compensation method for their units within them, should you suspect your temperature dial is out of range.  Get a small oven thermometer, put it in the oven, run at a known setting...say 350 and read what the gauge says after 15 minutes.
Your manual can be found on the GE site under http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/

GE Profile Spectra XL 44 gas oven

If you can smell the gas when you turn on the oven, it may be on a separate igniter that has gone bad. I would check this first. If you are not getting gas to the oven, there is possibly an issue with the supply line.
