Sound cuts out for long periods of time

My newly purchased Syncmaster 940MW sometimes does not put out any sound. It lasts anywhere from 5 minutes to hours, and suddenly comes back. Its in TV mode, and it effects all the channels. Nothing I seem to do makes the sound return. (And no, I don't have the mute button on.)

    NO sound at all

  • Nutmeg365 Jan 29, 2008

    Have the exact same problem. Started about 2 days ago and just happens randomly. It can disappear for hours. I've tried changing the sound output settings, turning it off for a few minutes, changing picture source, making sure all the connections are in at the back firmly etc;

I have the monitor 13 months now and this is the first trouble I've had with it. Anyone have any ideas?

i can get sound when i hook a playstation up but when used as a tv i cant get any?

I lose sound on the PC after plugging a transmitter for remote speakers in to the headset jack. I tried deleting the sound driver, replacing it with the latest download and restarting the computer. This worked, but the problem repeated itself twice, and it didn't work the third time. I am at my wits end. I have tried all the usual things, I even did a system restore back to the latest checkpoint. Everything appears to be working in the onscreen displays for the hd audio bus, but the "test" doesn't give any sound. This is a bummer. Any help out there?

I found a solution - at least for my situation! Under Vista, so I don't know if this would work for other OpSys. Right click on the speaker symbol and click on "sounds.". Click on "Playback". Right click on "speakers." Click on "configure speakers". Reset configuration to "Quadraphonic:" Click on "test" or click on speakers to test. If it plays, reset to "stereo" and you are fixed. If it doesn't play, Select "Next" and test those speaker symbols. Return to the original and retest, then reset to stereo. Works for me, but I sure had to write all the steps down. Good Luck. The same problem, when viewing TV - sound sometimes on, sometimes off, no matter what I do. At first I thought there was an antenna (analog cable) problem, since the sound seemed to come back after pushing the antenna plug in and out or fiddling with it. Then I thought it was some electronic contact inside, it worked after and at one time the buttons on the monitor/TV were out of function, and I had to turn it on and off via remote. The butons came to life with no apparent reason one day.

It seems to work again if I just turn the volume, rapidly, up quite high and down quickly (and repeat) for a bit. Sound seems to come back then

I've just been having this problem (sound cutting out every now and then) and decided to get round it by plugging in some speakers to the headphone socket. While doing it I noticed that the in-built speakers would sprang back into life. Since doing this and getting the sound back I've noticed it hasn't cut out again.

I think there might be a problem in some units with the bit that cuts off the in-built speakers when you plug in external speakers. My proposed solution is to prod a mini-jack from anything into the appropriate socket (on the left of the TV) and wiggle it around until the sound springs back.

I have had the same problem. Only differance is that I run a freeview box though my 940 mw. I thought it was that playing up. Also I all the keys are locked on the unit itself. The remote works everything but when I press any buttons on the monitor you get a 'keys locked info' up on screen. Its doing my head in!!!

Have sound but no tv picture

That model used the same power supply that the Samsung 940mw uses and when the capacitors go out you get sound but no picture just like you are getting. The repair is easy, you just need to replace the bad capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link to the repair guide for the 940mw that should help you get your 910 back going, same power supply so the same repair.

Monitor has very slow turn on time, about 5 minutes, even when computer is on and in sleep mode, when you hit a key it takes about 5 minutes for monitor to fire uo

Hello,

The usual cause of the slow display start up is the power supply. When you turn the monitor on or wake it from power save the power supply starts up but if it does not get stable voltages then it will not display a picture until they do stabilize. When the power supply starts to fail you can get this type of symptom. Other indications of failing power supplies include blinking power lights, fuzzy or wavy display or even a high pitched sound coming from the back of your monitor. If you cab solder then you should be able to do the repair yourself. We have a step by step repair article posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-the-samsung-940mw-lcd-tv/ Look it over and see if this is something you can do, if you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service. Here is the link to request a service number on your monitor, http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/

I hope this information is helpful, if so please rate our solution.

No sound when on pc mode

Check if your PC can play audio on some other speakers or headphone. If yes, check your monitor audio cable connections. If no something's wrong with your PC audio drivers. Try re-installing them or could be a hardware issue with your PC. Get it checked.
