SOURCE: how to open a ACER AL1713 monitor

Hi - there are more hidden screws so you need to undo those:

 1. Where the stand joins on the back, there are two plastic bits either side of the pivot. They don't look as if they come off but if you squeeze them (squeeze top and bottom) then they unclip.
 2. Remove the 4 metal screws you have just revealed (2 each side)
 3. Remove the 4 larger metal screws holding the stand to the monitor
 4. Remove 1 metal screw that you have just revealed which was hidden by the metal plate on the stand holder.
 5. Use a straight-bladed screwdriver to create a gap at the bottom of the monitor between the silver front / black back of the case.
 6. Open this up all around, and remove the silver front - undo the multi-cable connector which connects to the operating buttons and put the silver part to one side
 7. Lever out the monitor chassis.
 8. Put the LCD face down on a table but make sure there is nothing underneath it (I have two black blobs where mine sat on a bump in the table!)
 9. Then open up the cage with the electronics in it, by undoing 2 screws and sliding the cage off.
 10. Remove the four screws holding on the power board (the big one with a mains connector, disconnect any connectors, and then remove the board.
If your monitor is not working (even if the power light is dead), check for swollen electrolytic capacitors (tall things with an x at the top, made of metal with plastic around them). If you have swollen ones, that's probably why the monitor doesn't work. Replace them (make sure the + and - sides are in the correct places when you replace) and hopefully your monitor should work.

If it still doesn't work, look for any heat damage and poor soldering.

SOURCE: I can't open the case on a ACER AL1916B monitor,it

refortsm, you didn't say that you looked at any video clips on YOUTUBE that deal with LCD monitor disassembly. Find very , very DULL butter knife or table knife. You do not need a trip to the "ER" for a self-inflicted stab-wound!!! Some use old cd rom disc's for release of perimeter locking tabs???? Protect the units glass LCD panel at all times. You crack-it, then it's "You bought it you own it toyota!" "game over" for you. Removal of rear cover is hardest part of unit "tear-down" and inspection. Key for you is START at bottom with B-knife and pry gently. I hope this helps. Let me know about your "switch-mode-power-supply" condition. lmistyrel on aim. or 12fixlouie on Fixya

SOURCE: how do I open cover of Acer AL2021 Monitor ?

This is a bit tricky, but not impossible.
1. Remove the two visible screws near the bottom. 2. Pull the plastic covers off the stand: Pull from the inside (nearest where the stand is attached to the monitor. 3. Undo the screws and remove the bracket. 4. Under the bracket is the final screw. 5. Try pulling the front off the back starting at the bottom. It'll require a little force. 6. Now you should be able to get a knife in to pull the rest of the case off. Leaver by pushing the front outwards and back inwards and the clips should come off ok.

Losing the display on a laptop or notebook computer is a perplexing and frustrating problem. It's a problem that is somewhat difficult to diagnose, and can require specialized tools and a considerable financial outlay to repair. When the display on a laptop computer stops working, the computer is usually not worth the investment to repair.

1. Diagnose the problem with your computer. Watch the screen from the moment you hit the power button through the time it should take to boot into the Operating System.
Adjust the computer's contrast and brightness through their full ranges to make sure that the display settings have not been changed.
Reset the computer's LCD-External Monitor display with the LCD/External Monitor key combination and reboot the computer.
Continue to Step 2 if the screen is blank throughout the booting process.

2. Adjust the screen from its fully closed position to its fully opened position. Watch the monitor for any change from a blank screen to a display or vice-versa. If the screen flashes or cuts out, the LCD panel will need to be replaced. Skip to Step 5.

3. Skip this step if your computer does not have an external monitor output.
Connect your computer's external monitor output to a known good monitor and change the display from LCD to External Monitor (the keystroke combination is different for all notebook brands). Reboot the comptuer, if necessary.
If the computer does not display to the external monitor, the video card could be bad. Skip to Step 6.

4. Consult with a professional technician to determine the cost-effectiveness of replacing your computer's LCD if you are not knowledgeable in that area.
Purchase a compatible replacement LCD and install it yourself, or pay a professional technician to do so if you do not feel comfortable performing the repair.

5. Verify that the monitor connection cables are not loose or disconnected before attempting to replace it.
Replace the monitor yourself by removing the old monitor. Remove the hinge covers by gently prying them. Check if they are screwed to the computer before prying.
Find the monitor cable's connection to the motherboard. Turn your computer over and remove any plates that may cover the point of connection. Note the orientation of the cables before disconnecting them.
Unscrew the monitor from the hinges and gently detach it from your computer. Feed the new LCD panel's wires through the same path as the old wires, and reconnect them. Secure the new LCD's hinges and replace the hinge covers.
Power up the computer and check that it works. If it does not, recheck the wire connections.

6. Consult with a professional technician to determine the cost-effectiveness of replacing your computer's motherboard or video card if you are not knowledgeable in that area.
Purchase a compatible replacement motherboard or video card, and install yourself or pay a professional technician to do so if you do not feel comfortable performing the repair.

7. Replace the motherboard by disassembling the computer. Document every connection and be sure to retain all screws and small parts in order to reassemble the computer correctly. Reassemble the computer and power it up; check the keyboard to make sure that it has been reconnected properly.
Replace the video card by removing any covers or plates that hide the card. Remove the old card and install the new card in its place. Power up the computer to test the display.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

Acer AL 1912 (black) resolution issue

LCD Monitor Shadow Effect
This problem is best described as the LCD monitor "Shadow Effect".
The solution to this very simple. No software or hard ware changes required.
The cables that are connected to the LCD monitors are causing the problem. Its also called as electromagnetic noise or electrical noise.
Solution: Keep the two cables - (power cable and moitor display cable), that are connected to the LCD monitor as far away as possible with each other and also away from other electrical cables.
Thats it. Your shadow effect is fixed.
Thank you.
