When the blades are engaged they will not turn fast. changed the belt but still wont turn fast and will chock out when cutting grass

I just bought an old John Deere 68 riding mower but it does not cut grass even though the blade spins when engaged. I made sure the blade was on correctly but it still doesn't cut. I noticed the pulley...

Are you sure it is the correct blade and when it is turning the sharp edge is on the leading side? A spinning blade will cut grass even if the blade is dull. Did you lower the deck to the correct level?

engine rpm would be the only other thing. or you have the belt routed incorrectly. are the blades upside down? I see that on an almost daily basis with customer units.

Blades turn but not fast enough to cut grass

sounds like one or two ploblems,,, change belt,,check tenion pully,,hope this help,, good luck
