SOURCE: What spark plug should be used for a Murray Quantum XNP 6.5hp mow

Home Depot has the plug you need for briggs 6.5hp engines. Don't worry about it being a Murray. Buy a Briggs 6.5hp plug.

SOURCE: how do you adjust the valves on a 17.5 ohv briggs

Hi 1st remove the rocker cover and spark plug
hold a long skinny screwdriver down the plug hole and wind the engine by hand until you get top dead centre (NOTE WATCH ROCKERS) first the intake valve will open then close when it closes the piston should be coming up to top dead centre and both valves should be closed and the rocker loose setting should be 0.004 thou you need to undo the locking screw down the centre of the adjusting nut then you can adjust to setting, (DONT FORGET TO DO THE LOCKING SCREWS BACK UP) reassemble

SOURCE: Briggs and Stratton 22hp v twin OHV smoking badly

First thing to do is pull your dipstick and check for broken or missing O-ring also as you pull it, look to make certain that it was seated properly and all the way locked. If either condition exists, you will be leaking into the crankcase which will cause your symptoms

SOURCE: briggs and stratton platinum 5.5 hp ohv i/c engine

The carby probably has a block either in the idle, jet or float valve. These are both internal to the carby. To fix this, you will need to pull the carby off the engine and get it serviced by a tradesman. If you feel keen, split the carby apart, then run a very small drill bit (.38-.7mm) through the Jets by hand. Also spray carby cleaner in there and blow out with air blower.

It is always best to have the exact model number of the engine you want to work on. Here is a helpful link:http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf

My MTD 12.5 hp briggs and stratton ride on mower is losing forward speed as though a clutch is slipping especially going up hills or slopes. MIKE

You didn't indicate what model so I don't know if it is hydrostatic drive or not. If it is not hydrostatic drive, it is most likely a worn belt or clutch adjustment. If you don't have your manual you can download one here:http://www.mtdlawnmowerparts.com/manuals.php
If it is hydrostatic drive it stil could be the drive belt or low water in hydrostatic transmission, or even water in the oil in the hydrostatic transmission. Always list model number when asking questions.

My Poulan 42-Inch 17.5 hp Briggs and Stratton Engine with 6 speed will not move. The motor runs fine but when I go to put it into gear the mower will not move whether it be in reverse or any of the forward...

Assuming you have checked the main drive belt and it is snug, I think you have a problem with the hydrostatic drive. These are replaced with used or new, ain't cheap either way.
