You want your router between your source and location. So put the router between the modem, and a computer. Whether it's wireless or ethernet, it does not matter, and you can have usually up to 4 machines off one internet connection, making a local area network where you can choose to share files between machines or even run LAN games between them. So remember, modem, to router input, then output to your computer.

You can connect your computer to Internet if you have a Wi-Fi card in the computer. You need to connect the modem ethernet cable to the netopia wireless router and then connect to internet through wireless connection. First task is to configure wireless network connectivity on your netopia router connecting the 1st ethernet port to your pc lan card port, you will need the netopia instruction manual for this. The wireless configuration will be through a browser window(like internet explorer/mozilla firefox). This may take roughly 20 -30 minutes.

No more internet thru router after new modem installed

Router setup
Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the Comcast cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line.

Did Comcast reset you wireless router settings? If so, you may need to set up your SSID and security settings.

Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Trying to install router for wireless

If that's hooked to comcast you can only have one computer hooked up to it, and no modems as they block mac address. If you are a Comcast customer there is a workaround. Turn on your wife's wireless if she hasit, if not get her a wireless card USB is easiest. Turn on sharing on that wireless card and you will be able to access the internet through your wifes computer, and not run afoul of your Comcast agreement. Or request an upgrade to a wireless router from Comcast but your rent goes from $3.00 per month to $10.00!
