Sis' Necchi 586 lights up but there is no response to the pedal. Tester shows no power going from machine to pedal. No smell of overheating no obvious problems. Help much appreciated. Thanks

You might try searching the internet for your machine model plus the word "parts" Might also contact a local sewing repair shop who may be able to order what you need.

Some of the pictures on the internet make it appear that some of the machines' foot pedals may have been hardwired. Since the machine appears to be a table top drop-in model, the connection may well be under the machine.

However, here is a free dlownload of an owner's manual. Page 14 seems to show the plug-in on the motor itself.

sounds like a sew-tric plug an motor if so under the motor's electrical connection cover there is a wiring diagram moulded onto it

open your bobbin case and un jam it thread wound around the center

Usually pedals possess a variable rheostat controller that react with the action of your foot. If it fails to function normally, it suggests that a short circuit has occurred. Generally, that means an internal wire or contact opens up and stops all further activity as you mentioned. The best bet is to take the machine to your local sewing machine dealer for repairs.
