My car was clipped while parked by a hit & run driver. The fender is dented, the signal unit cracked a bit, and the plastic lens cap knocked off. The plastic amber portion of the light is intact. Do these units fail to work once they are unsealed, or will a bulb change fix it until I can take it to the body shop and have the fender replaced? It's dented in enough to make removing the signal unit impossible without removing the fender or hammering it with a rubber mallet.
Most likely the impact of the collision has broken the globe filament. I had many years ago the whole back of one of my vehicles smashed in with missing smashed broken covers on the brake and signal lights. I replaced the globes and used cellophane and gaffa tape as it had to show the correct color until I could get the back of the car fixed.
You could use clear or correctly colored cellophane if the signal cover is missing and use gaff tape or packing tape - taped at the edges on to the car body to seal it until you can get it fixed to protect it from water ..
