Hi,
a diode in reverse polarity could be used e.g. for protecting some circuit against improper polarity of supply. It could be connected in serial - but it is in forward polarity - (disadvantage: voltage drop) or in parallel - reverse polarity - with a fuse in serial to supply. This way is often used with Zener diode - protection against overvoltage in addition. Try to google e.g. "how to protect against improper polarity". For this type of protection could be used special types od diodes - transils - they could be one- or bidirectional. In case of a diode failure, the supplied circuit may not work - it depends on the way of diode connection and type of its failure - short circuit or disconnection. But there is many diode application: try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode#Applications

I installed a new battery in '07 Honda Ridgeline with reverse polarity. It arched and I think the starter was spinning and parking lights on. Did not start, had key in on position. reversed the cables

have it checked out by an accredited auto electrician because reversing polarity can do damage to alternator , ECM and numerous other polarity sensitive items in the car.

On a galaxy 66 v it was working then feq and channels got real dim and went out what cause that

could be but check the reverse polarity diode first and see if its blown. If it is replace it with the same diode .1n4001

Battery hooked up wrong

Disconnect the main battery to alternator wire and check again.
NOTE: DO NOT FORGET TO INSULATE THE REMOVED WIRE WITH INSULATING TAPE DURING THE TEST.
The diode rectifiers in the alternator may have become shorted due to the reverse polarity.

Blown fuses probably crossed power leads looking for component to replace have wiring diagraham

no need for wiring diagram just replace the reverse polarity diode. Look at where the power wires come into the radio and you will see a diode. that's the one to change.it should be a 1n4001

No power to radio wont even turn on

The most likely thing is what we techs call revers polarity. this means that the customer accedently hook up the power in reverse. this happens more often then not. The fix for this is to replace the 1 amp diode that goes between the negative and positive power input on the board. the Diode number is a 1N4007 or any 1amp silicone diode. You will also see that once Blown diode is cut the radio will come back on. this does not mean the radio is fixed what this means is that the shorted diode has been removed from the circuit. which also means the radio has nom protection until the diode is replaced.

No sound

the polarity was reversed and semiconductors are burnt at the output of the unit.

Cb radio reverse polarity damage

The diode is there to protect against rev polarity. Simply replace it with soomething like a 1n4007.
