This error code is dealing with the laser not being detected by its sensor. Check to see if the tab on the drum hasn't been bent or broken off, this pushes the laser shield out of the way so the laser can write to the drum. Lasers don't usually go out.

Hi. that error indicates there is a problem with the laser unit. maybe is dirty or damaged.

yes it is the laser scanner error.
solution is replace a new laser scanner or fix it
I have often enough to fix it.
there is some component in side of laser just loosen.
so if you want you can try it too....

How many copies do you have? If over then 55000 change the drum unit.

But it can also be the laser trouble.

According to the knowledgebase on Canon USAs web site, System Error Exxx may be corrected by removing all power (unplug) for ten seconds, then plugging it back in.
