Unless you have experience soldering PCBs, I would say yes it is too involved. How do you know the LED strips are the problem? Have you tested them? LEDs don't burn out unless excessive voltage was passed through them. Which means if the LED strips are shot, you'd have to figure out what caused the voltage spike. This involves signal tracing, removing soldered components, testing various types of semi-conductors, and the correct equipment to do all of this.
