Humidifier compressor does not stay on more than 1-2 minutes

The fan and compressor turn on but the compressor quickly shuts off and begins to rattle the entire unit. The fan remains running for a short while and then that too shuts off. I have checked to see if anything is rubbing against the fan housing but that isn't happening. While the compressor is running water does form on the fins but the unit quickly shuts down.

Sounds like bad relay on compressor or bad compressor. There is only so far you can go yourself without knowledge in electrical and AC units. Suggest you call a service tech or if you can take it to service cemter near you. Russ

I have a Frigidaire dehumidifer model FDL70S1 that wont stay running for more than 3 minutes and then it shuts the fan off, but still has power to the unit.

Hi lynn crisp, thanks for your post!

From my understanding you are having a challenging time with your Frigidaire dehumidifier shutting too quickly. It sounds like a possible problem with your sensor or control panel. Are you currently under warranty? I would contact your manufacturer for assistance to a proper resolution. -Matt

Hi,
The compressor will not start when it is hot or it is no longer bleeding the pressure off fast enough on the high side of the refrigeration system and it cannot start under the load. The start relay and capacitor could also be bad...that would give the same symptoms...

The unit begins and after a short time the unit stops.

it sound like the unit is very low on r134a refrigerant and in being so the compressor is overheating and the thermocouple sensor on the compressor body is shutting off power to compressor to keep it from burning up

My dehumidifier is making a power surge every few minutes. why?

A dehumidifier is functionally the same as an air conditioner. It has a compressor motor, which is a fairly high current draw item.

First of all, unless you are well versed in electrical repairs, you should unplug this unit and do not use it. This is a dangerous condition and a fire or electrocution could result.

One of four things is happening:

1) You have a wiring fault in the circuit your humidifier is plugged into. There is a loose connection in the circuit, causing a voltage drop, and the humidifier therefore has to pull much more current to start it's compressor. This is a very dangerous condition, as an electrical fire could result. Try plugging the unit into another circuit and see if it does the same thing.

2) the compressor of the humidifier is going bad and is shorting out internally. Time for a new unit.

3) Many compressor motors use a 'start capacitor' to help the motor get going. If this part has failed, the motor will try to start, but it will not be able to.

4) There is a fault in the power cord or controls of the humidifier. Just like #1 above, a loose connection could cause a voltage drop, making the unit draw high current.

most of these units are standard 110V units. If yours uses 220V (like an electric dryer), then it could have 'lost a phase' which is also a similar electrical issue.

01% humidity

When you push the power button, the blower fan comes on. In a few minutes you should hear a second "click"--that is your compressor starting. Do you hear that second click?

The compressor is located in the rear bottom on the right side looking at the machine. After you press the start button and the blower fan comes on, bend over near the back of the unit and listen for the "click".

Goldstar dehumidifier won't stay on

Check the relative humidity in the room or space where you are operating the dehumidifier. Damp feeling and actual humidity level are two separated items. Humidifiers will run for a few minutes until it is signaled that the humidity is already low enough and then shut down.

Humidifier Runs but no water collected

Are you talking about a dehumidifier or a humidifier. If you are talking about a dehumidifier, it works by blowing air across a cooling coil causing condensation and the water will drip and pool. The cooling is caused by a compressor working like refrigerator, but using the effect to dehumidify. To check if the cooling coil is working there will be a metal can like in it with tubes in and out. One of the tubes should be warm(input) and the other tube should be cold, if not your compressor is not working. If freezing up, low freon. Check to see if the compressor shuts off very quickly, that would be too much freon. This is not user servicable. Now a humidifier works several different ways. One way is a fan with cloth belts rolling through water using evaporation to humidify. Another way is for a circular fan like on a motor to turn. It has a hollow piece into the water. It picks up water and then through centrifugal force aerates. One way is for a sonic humidifier. All the types have a problem with eventual calcification or mineral build up in the water handling paths. Lime-away or Concentrated Lemon Juice will dissolve this. The lemon juice is the most fun. It will turn your toilet bowl white and also remove rust stains from laundry...
