Hello JBM,

Please press the cartridge button and the cartridge holder moves to the center. Gently press and pull the front cover toward you. Press the green tab on the front left edge of the BJ Cartridge cartridge holder. This releases the BJ cartridge. Lift the entire cartridge out of the printer. If installing a new BJ cartridge, take it out of its protective packaging. Peel off the protective foil, and lift the cartridge out. Lift off the orange cap from the print head. Then remove the orange tape.

You should clean or replace the absorber pad at some point but most of the time you can get away with resetting the ink counter a few times before you need to clean or replace the pad.

This message is inbuilt into most Canon printers, there is spongy thing in the printer which when fills up fires the message (it's mostly a counter in the printer, which can be reset more later...), per Canon this can only be dealt with in a lab but some of the more adventurous have tried cleaning it by themselves. Note that in a lab they won't clean it, it's a part that needs replacing and it might cost around $60. In most Canon printers there is a reset procedure that can reset the error and allow you to print some more before handling it again. Following are the reset procedures for some of the Printers: (not that F60 isn't listed here) Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE Waste Ink Counter Reset. (1) Turn off the printer. (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button. (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset" or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode". (4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press. 1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check. 2. EEPROM - Info printout. 3. EEPROM - Initialization. 4. Reset the Waste ink counter. 5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point - However it is best leave them unaltered - You have been warned!) After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more. Your printer should respond as normal. +++++++++ Canon MPC190 Reset Waste Ink 1) Enter SERVICE MODE. By pressing Menu Copy Scan Copy Copy 2) Select TEST MODE. 3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE. 4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR]. 5) Select 0. [INK COUNT]. 6) Press the [Set] key. 7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

The 6 beeps along with the orange light stands for "Re-install BJ cartridge or replace it". You might have already fixed the problem by replacing the cartridge, and you're still stuck with the error indication. The indicator should be orange. 6: Press Power to set data If it still doesn't go away, try cleaning the contacts the cartridge makes with the printhead. Dip the carts contacts(dipping only the contact area) in shallow hot water for a minute, then wipe dry with a cloth that doesn't shed fiber. Also clean the contacts on the printhead using a damp cloth, maybe also some alcohol. If it still doesn't go away you have to think of replacing the printhead, or chucking it. Good luck
