Set-up your I-mate Jama 101 into a Wireless Modem
Your i-mate™ JAMA 101 can be configured to act as a modem for your PC, allowing you to have a connection to the internet for your PC while you are out of the office or away from home. Your PC can be connected to your i-mate using Bluetooth® or a USB cable.
Although setting the device up for Internet sharing the first time may take some minutes, you only need to do these actions once per PC. Subsequent connections are quick and are explained at the end of each configuration.
Before you start, you must ensure ActiveSync 4.2 or later version is installed on your PC. You can find this program on the Getting Started CD that came with your device. You cannot run this function with earlier versions of ActiveSync. These instructions show how to set up your PC for connection over GPRS, please contact the customer support team if you wish to connect over a circuit switched connection. If you are running Windows Vista on your computer, you do not need to install Activesync. Windows Mobile Device Center software comes pre-installed with your operating system.
Getting Started
1. On your i-mate go to Start > Programs > Internet Sharing
2. You will be presented with the main screen of the Internet Sharing program
You now need to define the Web connection that your device will use to access the internet. If you have already defined an internet access connection in your device, you may select it from the dropdown menu in the ‘Network Connection’ list, and you are ready to connect to the internet. You can go straight to the section ‘Connecting over USB’ or ‘Connecting over Bluetooth’. If you have not yet defined an internet connection, you must define it now.
3. To set up the connection from inside Internet Sharing, go to Menu > Connection Settings
If your cellular subscription includes a GPRS subscription to the internet, then choose the GPRS option. In the bottom right, click “Next”.
4. Now fill in the details for your cellular provider’s access to the internet. You should contact your cellular provider for these details.
For the description field, you can type in any name you wish. For the “Connects To” field, choose “The Internet”. The “Access Point Name” field must be filled in with the details provided by your network operator.
Also enter the user name and password provided by your mobile operator, and any other details they provide, such as Primary DNS, Secondary DNS and IP address. If your mobile operator does not provide these to you, then leave the fields blank.
Once complete, press Done, then Done on the next page, and then Done on the next page to return you to the Internet Sharing application.
