Jd316 mule gear won't engage - John Deere Garden

I bet you have a nylon bushing that has gotten brittle and disintegrated. Your local Kawasaki dealer should have an exploded view of your machine. Look to where the linkage and cable meet on both ends.

Check if there is any transmission gear oil in that rear 4 wheel differential.

I am not familiar with the model so I don't know the starter type or how it engages, though if it is making a grinding noise it isn't right and should be removed for inspection.

If it has a pinion that meshes with a ring gear it obviously isn't meshing correctly or the ring gear is damaged. Each tooth of the ring gear must be examined before replacing a starter.

A starter motor is sometimes located on dowels and sometimes meshing is adjusted by shims.

You can use obd2 scanner to check the engine system.

Yep, not enough amps to engage the starter clutch, and when ti does engage, not enough amps to turn the engine. You need a 12 amp battery.
