I have vivitar binoculars about 20 years old, there is a crack in one of the lenses. Like to find out how to get fixed. I do not mind paying.

Well, actually Vivtar is not a big deal as a brand.. Having said this, best option to take it to an optical store where they actually can tell you if it can be repaired and where it can be repaired.

Serial number 5084291 - can you tell me what year they were manufactured

Hi Shena
Without knowing the brand of binoculars you're talking about, I would suggest getting in touch with the manufacturer directly and get the answer right form the source.
(EDIT)
OK then, now that we have that information, using the website below, it would appear that these were manufactured in 1915.
Scroll down until you reach that year.

Hope this is helpful!

Mildew on inside of Sans & Streiffe binoculars

Once mildew or fungal growth gets into a binoculars you have a major problem. Fungus 'eats' into the glass. Once this has happened the lens or prism needs to be replaced. There have been a number of solutions over the years but non has been able to fix the problem. Even if the fungus is gone there will be an effect on the clarity of vision. Binocular glass is made to be as clear as possible. Sans and Streiff made mediocre binoculars in the early years using BK7 glass with the last ones being quite good in the lower end of the market using BAK4.

Replacement parts are not readily available and the cost would exceed the worth of the unit. Unless is it has some personal significance it is not worth fixing.
