Can the timer of a frig when turned to defrost the heaters should turn on well I just installed new heaters and thermostat but not working what can the problem be???

Dennis,
The three things needed for your defrost heater to come on are the heating element, and thermostat, which I gather from your note you have already replaced, and the timer which sends the signal to the thermostat which when closed, sends the signal on to the heater. I would go ahead and try the timer control and see if that does it for you. Hope this helps!

Freezer works refrigerator portion does nt

Hello,

If refrigerator is not cooling properly can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer goes bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.

1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.

I hope the above helps.......

Regards.

I moved my freezer to the shed 6 months ago as soon as the cold weather hits the freezer has stopped working. The light is on inside and out, defrost timer is working. I?m thinking thermostat or compressor

Freezers & Fridges were not designed to operate in extreme cold conditions. They are designed to operate at room temp. It could be sending an inaccurate temp signal to the thermostat due to extreme low temp outside.

The unit freezes up then don't work

OK I'm looking over the manual and as long as the model number is correct RS2630SH you may have only one of three things causing this. I needing to go to another website to confirm the type defrost system yours has. I will send you a manual when I return. It appears that you have a higher possibility of a defrost heater or defrost thermostat defective.I am getting mixed answers on a decision of a defrost control board. Just make sure your model number does not have a different number or letter missing. I will send as much as I can find on your model but checking the defrost heater and defrost thermostat would be the first thing to do. Unplug refrigerator and remove contents of the freezer rear wall. we need to use a meter to check continuity through the defrost heater. If one is bad replace both defrost heater part number DA47-00154A and defrost thermostat part number DA47-10160F.
One model came with a defrost control board but I just cannot find one on that model number so the motherboard controls defrost. I will send manual shortly. Thanks, Sea Breeze

My refridgerator evaporetor coils are freezing up. is there a relay that the micro control computer sends a signal to to send the refridge into auto defrost. it is a kenmore model 10654209300. Bobby

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

Have a GBS22HCRAWW bottom freezer model. The

There are three possible reasons for this problem. The defrost heater is defective, the defrost thermostat or the mother control bord is not signaling the defrost message. First we need to unplug and check the defrost heater with an OHM meter to see if it is burned out. If OK then we need to focus on the defrost thermostat and the mother control board. The part number for the defrost heater is WR50X10042 The defrost thermostat is WR50X10050 And the control board is WR55X10942 Hope this helps, Sea Breeze
