I have Singer sewing machine 5144 - How do I assemble the needle thread tension assembly?

i need an exploded view of the needle thread tensioner so i can know if mine is assembled right

send ur exact model and brand name ..will get ur schematic diagram soon

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

Dear Sir / Madam,
If the needle thread becomes all tangled underneath when you begin to sew there are only a few things that can be wrong.
It is not only Singer machines but most domestics as people only use them occasionally and forget how to thread them correctly.
1) Get out your threading diagram and follow it carefully.
2) Make sure that the needle thread is in between the main tension discs, if it is only running around the edge of the discs the machine will do exactly what you say.
3) Lift the presser foot up with the lever at the back of the machine, this should part the main needle thread tension discs, DO NOT TRY and dismantle the tension assembly if you are not sure what to do.
I suggest you get a bit of fabric or similar and remove any lint that is trapped between the tension disks.

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever,then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side,the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.

This long groove must be on the left side of the needle when it is inserted properly.
