1. With the Samsung Galaxy TAB turned off, press and hold the VOLUME Down button, and then briefly press the POWER button.

Note: If you see "Downloading" on the screen with an Android shoveling you pressed the wrong Volume key. Remove and reinsert the battery and try again.

What do you mean by service? I've got the WiFi tab (no 4G service), and I used my tablet everywhere there's wifi, basically. I use it as a planner with google calendar, learn Italian with DuoLingo, play some games, surf the web, and sketch with SketchBook Pro. I also use it to text with google voice. I take lots of photos and videos with it. For me, since I don't have a smart phone or a data plan, a tablet is perfect.

Some Galaxy Tab devices have crosstalk between wifi and bluetooth that causes signal interference.

Try turning off Bluetooth.
