Samsung 913N Monitor went out after a power outage.

We had a power outage one day this week. When the power came back on the monitor didn't. The power button light is blicking. I unplugged the cable to the computer but there's still nothing.
The monitor is a Samsung 19" 913N.
Is there a simple way to check the backlight or should I take it to a repair shop and have them check other things too? It carried a 3 yr. warranty but the 3 years was up 8 days ago. How luck can I get????
I'm now using an old CRT and need my LCD back asap. Can you give some advise?

I'm now using an old CRT and it's working fine so it's definitely the monitor. The light is green.
    Thank you

Hello
I am a technician-informatic. I have repaired about 80 Lcd Samsung monitors with theese problems. I offer the repair manual.
Manual has been done with the experience of the repairing Samsung Lcd monitors. Manual was made by me and shows how to open monitor, how
to solve dark screen problem, how to check and replace capacitors, how to solve the problem non-optimal mode (without reprogramming MCU or
changing the main board) photo are included. 100% functional. The repair process is very simple 30-40min. (does not need a lot of
experience in electronics and expensive instruments) and is not expensive. With this manual you can solve problems by yourself and save
money.

"Not Optimum Mode 1280x1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on but turns off by itself, the LED blinks green.
- If you detach from the PC points to "control cable" the picture runs continuously in the vertical direction or presents while line , and
as soon as it is reconnected, the monitor goes off.
- The monitor does not turns on and dont dispaly anything, the LED blinks green-lit, if you detach from pc points to "control cable".
- The monitor turns on, works well some time, but after a window apiers "Not optimum mode. Mode recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on, works well only with low resolution 800x600, when try to change a window that reads "Not optimum mode. Mode
recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"

the manual you can find on ebay (my ebay name is asnerejas123):

I have a problem with my Samsung 913N monitor.

Service manual: http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=samsung&megnev2=913&kategoria=monitor&kat2=all

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

You are not offering a solution. The question is what to do, not where to take the monitor. If you can't provide a technical solution, why comment.

Your problem is common with samsung monitors, and there are several posible solutions. Unfortunately they involve the replacement of components on the mainboard. If you are competent to do them, You will find plenty of tips by 'Googling' for Syncmaster 913n repairs. If you are not a service person, I suggest you take your monitor a local one for a quote, though it well might be prohibitive. If your monitor is out of warranty, forget about Samsung service centres.Just buy a new monitor!

Syncmaster 913v not optimum mode

I just resolved this problem for my SyncMaster 913N.
It seems to be a known issue, however it can take quite some time for the problem to occur. In my case about 3,5 years, so well out of warranty.

Short term solution: unplug your monitor from power. The switch on the front is not good enough. Pull the plug and leave it for an hour or so (all night if you can). Good chance the monitor will work next time you power it up.
The problem will is likely to come back..

Permant fix requires some basic soldering as per this video:

I just managed it and it has been ages since I soldered a resistor so you may very well be able to do it. I spent $25 on tool and part and saved me from buying a new monitor.

When i start up my computer, the screen is all black even tho the monitor is powered. Then when i press menu, it says test good, and goes back to black screen?:s

There are two kinds of inputs your monitor can take. I believe you are currently using the VGA input. Try DVI and see if it resolves the problem.

Sasung 913n monitor

Same here. The unplug/inplug of the monitor seems to be the workaround. For now, I boot up Windows with the 913 unplugged and connect it after a couple of minutes when Windows has booted up. As mentioned before, this bug only happened to me after shifting to a PCIe card, Nvidia 6600 LE driver.
