When threading or removing the threads from the machine, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot! This releases the tension disks so the thread will move freely. AND ALWAYS pull the thread DOWN through the machine, NEVER UP!!!

Hello Jenny hornsey

This may sound traumatic, but there is no easy way to pin point where the tie-up is located. So proceed as follows.
Cut all the threads as they come off the antennas.

Open the front cover and pull-out all the threads by pulling them straight toward the back. If they do not come easily, try moving the hand wheel back and forth by a 1/4 revolution .. this is like a rocking motion. If still not budging, start cutting back the threads and removing them in sections until all the threads are cleared. If this step is still challenging; check that there is no residual fabric or threads still wrapped around the loopers or other part/s of the serger. If so cut them out bit by bit until everything below is cleared.

Great. Now check for threads wrapped and/or jammed anywhere above.

Since the overlocker jammed, it is possible that the needles were bent. This will continue to cause issues in stitch formation. So just to make sure; change the needle/s. Make sure that the correct needle type is being used. Every overlocker is engineered to be used with a specific needle type. The needle type will be specified in the manual and will also appear on the needle package. If the needle types are not the same, do not use those needles.

Re-thread the overlocker and stitch test on a piece of fabric before pressing down on the foot control.

This should get the overlocker back on track and you back to overlocking.

Please let me know how this works out for you.

Happy overlocking

    Hello Jenny
What is your overlocker make and model? Also what do you mean by "it jams"? Are the needles hitting something? Are the loopers hitting something?
I look forward to see your reply.

Why is my Elna overlocker jamming the thread?

Fabric jamming in your machine may be caused by the feed dogs. The feed dogs are those tiny teeth along the sewing machine underneath the presser foot as those teeth pull the fabric through when the needle is making stitches. Lint or debris in the feed dog area can jam the mechanisms preventing them to move.

On my singer sewing machine 4432 the fabric is not being pulled through and the threads then jam underneath. How can I fix this.

Make sure that the feed dogs are raised. And make sure the needle is inserted properly and not blunt or bent, and clear out all lint and thread under the feed dogs. You'd b amazed how much debris can collect under here. :-)

I have an Elna explore 340 sewing machine. Fabric jammed while i was sewing. how do I remove fabric

Carefully cut any thread, turn the hand wheel gently to lift the needle up. Lift the presser foot up from the fabric, if the fabric is jammed in the feed dogs, and as the metal plate, take a screwdriver (some machines come with a special one). Unscrew the metal plate and use a seam ripper to carefully pull out the fabric or loosen them from the feed dogs.

Doing free motion quilting, feed dogs down, and the thread keeps jamming under the plate. It jams the needle and there's several small lengths of thread maybe 1/2 inch jammed below.

Slow down the movement of the needle. Make movement of the fabric a little faster. If this happens when you are sewing fabric with the feed dog operating then the bobbin tension is too tight (top set at four). Also, make sure the pressure foot isn't set too tight. If the material is thin you will probably need to use stabilizer.

Why does the backing gather up even though it is penned and sprayed with quilting spray

Presser foot tension is to low for the weight/finish of the fabric, or bottom dogs are worn.
  • The feed dog feeds the fabric under the presser foot while you guide the fabric.

  • The feed dog regulates the stitch length by how much fabric passes under the presser foot as the machine stitches.

  • It is important for you to not push and pull the fabric under the presser foot. Allow the feed dog to move the fabric, so that you do not bend and break sewing machine needles.
Hope this helps.

Kenmore Model (385.15108200) Fabric not moving

hi! there if your feed dog does not move the fabric forward or backward,if this is so try to run machine w/o the fabric check if feed dog move on cycle, the teeth should be moving upward and downward rotation pushing action on your fabric, the teeth should come out to the plate slot of feed dog.if not adjust upward, and adjust also the presser foot of needle.if your feed dog is not moving when machine running, thre is a mechanical disengage or loosen in shuttle assymble and feeder dog mechanism they link together ubder the machine,as the shuttle move on one stroke the feeder also move also with the needle.Chesk the adjustment and link mechanism.in addition to this try to clean feed dogs by brush chips thread and fabrics sometimes stored on mechanism of feed dogs and shuttle.

Fabric not feeding and jamming occurs

When this happens it is because the thread tension was not right so it gets stuck under the bobbin case and the feed dogs. Use a bigger lint brush and take out the bobbin casing and clean out the shuttle. When you rethread pull slightly on the thread before you feed it through the needle. This will make sure the thread is properly in the tension discs.
