you should be using multi discharge point plugs in out board motors -not regular car engine plugs and the gap is preset on them
the reason being , with multi point discharge they are less likely to foul from oil and carbon build up
available from any good auto parts shop or marine shop

The plug gap is most likely .040, however can you please confirm your serial number?

if its got a 10 after the letters and numbers on the plug then its 1mil !

The spark plug gap depends from the engine make/model, not from the spark plug type.
Usually all engines will run with a gap between 0.7 and 1.00mm
