I just turned on my freezer that has been unplugged for a few years and it was on for five hours, working great. It then just quit. There is no humming sounds but the light is on inside. Any ideas? Thank you!

This site may help. There are just too many electronic anomalies that can cause this issue. I got lucky once by asking if they just had their dog RFID tagged and spayed or neutered. Turns out they did that week. The ID tag was on the same frequency as their dryer buzzer. They put a gum wrapper on the front of buzzer and problem solved. https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/Freezer-Repair-Help
If it has the control board on the door, they have been known to do that, it pressed/snapped into the door. If not and it has a manual ,standard knob on the inside, thermostat , slowly turn it back and forth to hear the clicking of the control which should start and stop the operation. If this is a self defrosting freezer and has the thermostat it also has a defrost timer that like a alarm clock shuts the unit on and off for 20 min intervals every 6 to 8 hours, this part has a little motor on it that overheats. You will be able to physically see oil comming out of it, or noisy ticking/ humming and very hot to the touch. Replace these parts and it should repair it. Good luck
The easiest thing to try is to completely defrost the freezer by turning it off for at least 24 hours. Often, the coils freeze, and then you cannot get any cold air to freeze your food.
You could also download a manual and electrical schematic from the manufacturer's web site. Use a voltmeter to trace the power and find the problem.
Does the compressor motor still run? Can you hear the fan motor run while the compressor is running? Normally, it is not worth recharging the freon in a freezer. If the freon leaked out (not likely), then you need to repair the leak first. It ends up costing the same as getting a new freezer.
The drain is clogged behind the wall in the freezer you can do one of three things take the back wall inside the freezer off and thaw the drain in the bottom and clear it out,Pay someone else to do this,or you can mover your food for a day unplug the unit open the freezer door and leave it off for 24 hours allowing the ice to clear from the drain, seems to happen about every five or six years with Maytags..
the "e" usually means it has an error. it could be a bad temperature thermistor or a bad control board. the most likely is the board. i hope you are less then 1 year old as the board can be quite pricey, about 150 bucks. you could try to unplug the unit for a few minutes and then plug back in and see if the code goes away and returns to the cooling mode.
The compressor is overheating and not starting. Could be just the start relay. If this happens again try unplugging it for about an hour then it should work for a while. Heat between doors is normal this is an electric heater designed to keep the doors from sweating. You just noticed it because the refrigerator wasn't cold.
If it started to cool again the compressor was running. Check the condenser and make sure it is clean. Provide as much air movement through the garage as possible . 100 degrees is a high temperature to be operating a refrigerator in.
